Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

Wow, with excellent weather on Saturday and Sunday, it was game on. Yep, it was breezy in the afternoon, so you had to get the job done in the morning, many did.

Private boater Jeff set the early standard for great fishing at Catalina Island last weekend. He found the home guard Yellowtail on the chew Saturday, 04-07-12. Fishing solo, as he had a last minute cancellation from his crew. Jeff caught two Yellowtail weighing 20 pounds, and a 15 pound Tail to wrap up the day's catch early morning:

Not wanting to let an opportunity go to waste, Captain Jeff headed back to the Island on Sunday, and slammed the Yellowtail, again fishing solo, landing six Yellowtail to 30 pounds, out of nine hook ups. Wow Jeff, that's outstanding!

The Pacific Voyager ran a 1.5-day trip over the weekend and slammed the Reds, Lingcod, and Rockfish.

The Freedom out of 22nd St. Landing ran a trip Sunday, 04-08-12 to San Nicolas Island. According to angler Odium the fishing was excellent. Some pictures:

The reports from the ¾ and ½ day Sport Boats locally remain excellent on Rockfishing, with some nice Lingcod included in this weeks count. The cold dirty water along the coast continued, so the Bass fishing remains slow.

Twilight fishing: The Freelance out of Davey's Locker ran a twilight trip on Sunday, 04-08-12 and caught lots of Sculpin to go with a few Rockfish and Sand Dabs. The Native Sun fished twilight trips both Saturday, April 07, 2012 and Sunday, April 08, 2012, as angler Loker and friends found the Sand Bass on the chew. Some pictures courtesy of the Loker:

I fished with private boater Lal on the Rubber Ducky Saturday, 04-07-12 and we found the Bass fishing still quite slow, however, we both did catch our first Calico Bass in awhile, which is a promising sign. We also added Lingcod, Sculpin, Cabazon, Reds and rockfish to our count, although all fish were released and all were caught on plastics.

Japan Ron also fished with Lal on Monday, 04-09-12 and they caught a dozen Sand Bass to five pounds.

All comments and suggestions welcomed!

The weather forecast for the weekend is not good for Saturday or Sunday, as heavy winds are forecasted both days. High pressure moves in on Monday and the forecast for most of next week is great, with much warmer temperatures and calmer seas. Always check the latest forecast before leaving the dock.
