Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

Locally the annual migration of Sand Bass has begun, as most ½ day and ¾ day boats are catching limits or near limits on many trips, with plenty of the Bass barely 12 inches in length. I actually cringe when I read the reports from the landings, with 200 to 400 Bass being caught per boat and dock totals in the thousands. Knowing so many Bass are being killed, with almost no encouragement for catch and release practices being taught. I know many folks don't fish often and use the fish to feed the family; however, you have ask yourself how many Bass are killed and never see the frying pan? At least I understand the DFG is looking into reduced limits and increased size of the taking of Bass.

The Barracuda bite was again very steady throughout the week in Long Beach and Santa Monica Bay. The Barracuda have been moving from the Huntington Flats and back and forth to the Horseshoe Kelp. The White Seabass Island bite remains slow on most days, with a few fish here and there. There are still some Coastal Tankers being caught if you put in the time to catch them. This week produced a few more large Halibut off the Domes and south of Dana Point and all along the coast.

The Coronado Islands and Rockpile have slowed way down with Yellowtail counts only in one's and two's per boat, although a small snap on the White Seabass occurred mid-week. Both the Bass and Barracuda are on the chew at the Coronado Islands and points south.

There were some decent counts of both White Seabass and a few Yellowtail at Santa Barbara Island, Catalina, and at San Clemente Island if you picked the right day, Island and right spot.

The offshore scene did not produce much over the weekend and few boats have enough passengers willing to go mid-week on expensive 1.5 day trips with only a hope and a prayer to find fish? Some of the boats fishing over the weekend did find some decent Yellowtail on the Kelp Paddies, which is certainly encouraging. The weather offshore was not very good over the weekend, however it is expected to improve immensely this week and bodes well for better results.

Private boater Curtis fished with friend Brandon on Saturday, 06-09-12 and made the long run down to the Tuna grounds over a 100 miles south of San Diego catching a 18 pound Bluefin Tuna and a decent size Yellowtail off a kelp paddy. They saw few signs of Tuna, and stopped on numerous Paddies for the one Yellowtail. Some pictures:

Ben and his wife fished on the Vagabond 8 day trip that returned on Saturday, 06-09-12. On their way home from Alijos Rocks they found a great bite on the Bluefin Tuna. Some pictures:
