Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
For local fishing in the Santa Monica, Long Beach, Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with trips out of San Diego and Baja, Mexico.
With good weather on Saturday and for most of the week, and being a Holiday weekend, this provided numerous opportunities for scheduling lots of fishing. Locally the Sculpin and Bass remain the targeted species, with Halibut being the spice on the cake. Across the border there remains some outstanding fishing for Big Reds and Lingcod, mostly on multi day trips.
We had a fantastic 2.5 day trip on the
Aztec, out of Seaforth Landing over the weekend. Limits of Reds complemented by combined limits of other Rockfish, Lingcod, Sheephead and Whitefish. Here are a couple of pictures from my report, to read the full report with lots more pictures click on this link;

The
Constitution had another successful 1.5-day trip on Saturday, 02-18-12. The weather on Saturday was spectacular, and brought easy limits of big Reds and Lingcod. Some pictures, courtesy of Captain Cory:

Indian ran a1.5-day trips over the weekend, and found limits of Rockfish. Some pictures courtesy of Tyson:





There are plenty of Sport Boats and private boaters gearing up for opening day, Thursday, March 1st for Rockfishing, which includes Lingcod, Sheephead and Whitefish. Make your reservations soon, as many boats are filling up.
This weekend and until Thursday, all local boats will mostly continue the process of targeting Sculpin in the morning, and concentrating on finding Bass on the structure in the afternoon. There are some boats which also schedule Halibut specials such as the Native Sun out of Long Beach, which caught 5 halibut and 18 Sculpin on their Wednesday, 02-22-12 trip.
Twilight fishing: The
Slammer out of Redondo Sportfishing ran a trip on Monday, 2-20-12, with 4 anglers catching limits of Sand Bass. The
Native Sun ran a trip Saturday night, 02-18-12 and caught 75 Sand Bass and 68 Sculpin.
In Santa Monica BayThe
Tradition ran ¾ day trips over the weekend, catching limits of Sculpin in the morning, and then they added a good assortment of Calico and Sand Bass in late morning and early afternoon. Some pictures from Jackpot Jimmy's trip on Saturday, 02-18-12:

The ½ day boat
New Del Mar out of Marina Del Mar continues to have great success targeting Bass and Sculpin. The New Del Mar caught 1 Halibut, 1 Sand Bass and 300 Sculpin (limits) on their Saturday, 02-18-12 trip. The ¾ day
Spitfire had over six mixed Bass around plus a bunch of Sculpin on their Sunday, 02-19-12 trip.
Private boater Jason fished with Vince on Saturday afternoon, 02-18-12, and caught a great assortment of Bass and other critters. Some pictures:

Newport Beach and Dana Point.Private boater Scott fished with friend Brett on Wednesday, 02-22-12, and caught several Halibut and some Sand Bass. Some pictures:

The ½ day boat
Patriot out of Newport Landing ran a trip on Wednesday, 02-22-12 and caught 3 Sand Bass and 51 Sculpin.
The 3/4 day boat
Clemente out of Dana Point ran a trip on Sunday, 02-19-12 and caught 5 Halibut, 9 Sand Bass and 10 Sculpin.
Long Beach and San PedroThe ¾ day boat Sport King out of LA Harbor had their best trip this week for mixed Bass on Saturday, 02-18-12, as 15 anglers caught 4 Calico Bass, 6 Sand Bass, 6 Sculpin and 100 Perch.
The ¾ day boat Sea Anglers out of 22nd Street Landing ran a trip on Wednesday, 02-22-12 and continues to slam the Sand Dabs, catching 3750!
The 1/2 day boat Matt Walsh out of LA Harbor caught 8 Calico Bass, 6 Sand Bass, 3 Sculpin and 63 Perch for only 8 anglers on their Sunday, 02-19-12 trip.
The 1/2 day boat Sothern Cal out of Pierpoint Landing caught 69 Sand Bass and 12 Sculpin on Sunday, 02-19-12.

Down South-San Diego and good ole Mexico!The ¾ day boat San Diego, out of Seaforth landing is back on line after winter maintenance. They had a productive trip on Wednesday, 02-22-12, catching 9 Sheephead, 29 Whitefish, 18 Rockfish, 1 Lingcod and 53 Red Snapper.
