Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

Ok the storm on Saturday kept almost everyone off the water, with only a few anglers fishing on Sunday. Good weather all week provided great opportunities for better fishing, although few private boaters have taken advantage of it. Most of those who did were rewarded.

The Yellowtail began biting in La Jolla last week, and on Monday the fleet caught ten Yellowtail, with the ¾ day boat San Diego catching six. They caught another seven on Tuesday, 04-17-12 and 15 more on Wednesday to 34 pounds.

Angler Odium fished on the San Diego on Thursday, 04-19-12 with friend Brian and both caught Yellowtail. Brian with his:

Private boater Jeff on his boat "Ready to Assemble" returned to Catalina Island on Saturday evening, in rough seas, where I, crew Jonathan and George joined Jeff. We stopped at the Isthmus to look for Squid with only 50 pieces to show for our 6 hour effort in a continuous rock and roll environment. The seas finally settled down Sunday morning after sunrise. According to Jeff the water temps were unaffected by the Storm, and water clarity remained similar to his last trip. However, the Yellowtail had lockjaw. We did see boiling fish, and several seals were happy campers throwing a fresh caught Yellowtail up in the air and slapping them down, while the Birds when nuts eating the scraps.

Due to the storm all 1.5-day or longer trips over the weekend were cancelled. However, the Aztec ran a charter trip on Monday, 04-16-12 and returned with limits of Reds and Rockfish, including 11 fat Lingcod.

The Pacific Star ran a 2-day trip to the Islands returning Tuesday, 04-17-12 with limits of Rockfish, 3 Halibut and 40 Lingcod. Some pictures:

Local fishing remains excellent on Rockfishing, with more nice Lingcod being caught. The warmer days this week should help in reducing the cold dirty water along the coast. There were some decent evenings of Bass fishing on the Twilight runs.
