Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.
Despite this week's storm, sending a chill through the Sportfishing industry, the Bluefin Tuna
and Yellowfin Tuna
counts remain very good! In fact there have been some outstanding scores such as the Cortez
returning from a 2.5 day trip with 12 anglers catching 80 Bluefin Tuna, 80 Yellowfin Tuna and 80 Yellowtail.
There were some outstanding scores on the Bluefin Tuna on both Thursday and Friday (today). Most of these fish are in the 40 to 60 pound range with an occasional bigger model. Both the one day boats and longer trips scored big time. Some boats also loaded up on Dorado
. Insane fishing considering it is this late in October?
Surprisingly most of the 1.5 day boats and longer are traveling 100 miles or more south of San Diego while one day fishing has produced well off and on. Meanwhile the private boater has concentrated on Kelp Paddies inside 40 miles with a few venturing down to the Tuna pens near Ensenada
where the Bluefin are hanging out. Most one day sport boats have been fishing this area successfully.
The ¾ day boats were again on the hunt this week with good counts at the Coronado Islands
which have yielded a nicer grade of Yellowtail lately.
Here is a picture from angler Brandon with a big Yellowtail off the ¾ day boat San Diego
The Coronado Islands right now are going off with Yellowtail to 35 pounds. Here are some pictures from the recent Chubasco II
Nice Tuna off the Pride

fishing remained quiet this week, with few reports.
The Channel Islands
are back to fishing primarily for Rockfish. A few nice Halibut are being caught with an occasional Yellowtail and a spot of Barracuda adding to the action.
Locally the Sand Bass and Calico Bass is all but dormant, and there are few if any Twilight trips being scheduled!
Angler Ron fished the 3/4 day boat Victory with some decent Rock cod Fishing:
Pretty ladies that fish or maybe not:
Nice Lingcod off the Mirage
Continued good fishing on the Stardust
up north:The IslandsCatalina/Santa Barbara Island!
did not catch any Bonito on their trips to the island this week, settling for a few Calico Bass, Whitefish, Sheephead and Rockfish.
The Sport King
also relied primarily on Rockfish and other critters for this week's fishing.San Clemente Island!
fished the Island Saturday, Oct. 05-13 and landed 10 Yellowtail, and lost some others! Down South-San Diego and good ole Mexico!
