Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.
The full moon had an adverse effect on the weekend Tuna fishing and the lack of counts forced many boats to cancel plans during the week due to lack of passengers. Neither the
Yellowfin nor the
Bluefin Tuna put in an appearance, even for trips as long as three days. The great early start to the offshore season has now sort of fizzled? The Yellowtail still seem to be plentiful when the right kelp paddy can be found, although too many have very small fish on them. The
Condor on a 1.5 day trip fishing Thursday and returning this morning caught 30 Yellowfin Tuna. Not sure what has happened to the Bluefin, yet it remains mind boggling that the Yellowfin are biting this early in the year?
Island fishing for
Yellowtail and
White Seabass remains promising, as the Channel Islands have kicked out good counts on both species lately. Throw in some Huge
Halibut and some trips are just sensational. Catalina fishing for Yellowtail and White Seabass has been hit and miss. No wide open bites lately, but the six pack charters have done well on both while the Pursuit and Sport King have found some Yellowtail on the chew on a daily basis.
More and more
Barracuda are being caught locally out of
Long Beach and
San Pedro, and continue to be caught in
San Diego and at the
Channel Islands. Finally
Santa Monica Bay got into the action. For example the ¾ day boat
Spitfire caught 100 Barracuda and the ½ boat
New Del Mar put 225 on the deck! Out of Long Beach the ¾ day boat
Enterprise caught 142 Barracuda and out of San Pedro the ½ day boat
Monte Carlo caught 82 Barracuda. It should be an exciting weekend.
Fishing for Yellowtail at the
Coronado Islands and/or Rock Pile remained steady during the week with counts as high as 27 on the
Malihini, Thursday, 06-19-14, and they also caught 128 Barracuda, making it a very decent day.

This is just two of the big Yellowtail caught off the Malahini out of 11 Yellowtail and lots of Barracuda on their Sunday trip.
