Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

The Pursuit managed to catch two Yellowtail at Catalina on Monday, 12-23-13. Otherwise it has been mostly bottom fish for their trips. This is the last weekend to catch Rockfish, Lingcod, Reds, Sheephead ad Whitefish, before we face a two month closure for the months of January and February. That leaves fishing only for Bass, Halibut, Perch, Sculpin and any stray Exotic you can find. The fleet will concentrate on Sculpin in the morning then target the Bass later in the day. Of course there is always Mexico to satisfy your craving for a fish taco.

Both the El Dorado out of Long Beach and the Toronado out of Pierpoint Landing have scheduled trips this weekend fishing the shallow water at San Nicolas Island over the weekend and Monday and Tuesday next week:

The El Dorado caught 80 Lingcod on their last trip Monday, 12-23-13:

The Chief out of San Diego is running a 2.5 day trip tonight south of the border.

Scattered reports of breezing Yellowtail out of Ensenada this week, with plenty of Rockfish being caught by the very few anglers fishing the area?

Captain Kelly got a call from Captain Tito and they caught some very large Yellowtail at the 240 Bank out of San Quintin this week. There is always an incredible assortment of Lingcod, Reds and Rockfish in both deep and shallow water available.

Pretty ladies who fish or maybe not:

Private boater Lal fished on his boat the Rubber Ducky with friend Mark Thursday, 12-26-13. They wanted to go to Catalina, however Mother Wind had other ideas so they fished the Palos Verdes area and caught 15 Calico Bass and six Sand Bass with lots of Sculpin and Rockfish, all of the Bass and Rockfish were released to fight another day.

Angler Jimmy and his Father chartered the ½ day boat Clemente out of Dana Wharf Landing, Tuesday, 12-24-13, catching big Sheephead, Lings and Reds:

The Channel Islands are providing quality Rockfish and Lingcod fishing along with a few nice Halibut Sheephead, and White fish.

Angler Sherm and gang fished the New Hustler up north and found the Lingcod, Coppers and Reds on the chew:

Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

The last report of a Yellowtail being caught at Catalina, was on the Pursuit, which caught a single on Sunday, nothing since? So as we wrap up 2013 with only two weekends remaining to fish, it appears we will have to be satisfied with bottom fish for the duration. Then we face a two month closure for all Bottom fish, Whitefish and Sheephead in Southern California. That leaves Bass, Halibut, Perch, Sculpin and any stray Exotic you can find. The fleet will concentrate on Sculpin in the morning then target the Bass later in the day. Of course there is always Mexico to satisfy your craving for a fish taco.

The Pacific Voyager out of Seaforth Landing and the Chief have been running 1.5 day or longer trips south of the border. I'm guessing other boats will join the mix during the closure time period as passenger demand increases.

Some of the very best fishing for big Lingcod, Reds, Whitefish and large Sheephead has been at San Nicolas Island or up north at the Channel Islands.

There were huge Lingcod and other bottom critters caught off the El Dorado fishing the shallow water at San Nicolas Island over the weekend and early in the week:

The Toronado has scheduled trips out of Pierpoint Landing where they also fish San Nicolas or other Islands for the last two weeks of the year.

Scattered reports of breezing Yellowtail out of Ensenada this week, with plenty of Rockfish being caught by the very few anglers fishing the area?

San Quintin did not report any Yellowtail caught this week. There is always an incredible assortment of Lingcod, Reds and Rockfish in both deep and shallow water available.

Pretty ladies who fish or maybe not:

Private boater Lal fished on his boat the Rubber Ducky with friend Mark Tuesday, 12-17-13. They caught a mix of 26 Sand Bass and Calico Bass with some Sculpin and Rockfish, all of the Bass and Rockfish were released to fight another day.

Dave continued to find some good spots working our way along the backside of the island. We caught a steady stream of Reds, Coppers and Santa Marias, with a few Boccaccio and other critters mixed in.

I came up with a nice double, a Santa Maria and a decent sized Red:

Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

Despite a deep freeze, wind and rain a few folks got out on the water during the week and the fishing was excellent for all sorts of Bottom Critters. Very quietly the home guard Yellowtail have gone off at Catalina, as the Pursuit caught 10 Yellowtail to 25 pounds on Tuesday, 17 Wednesday and 5 Yellowtail to 30 pounds on Thursday. Other than 976-Tuna no one has posted a report? Some pictures off the 22nd St. Landing home page:

Neither the Sport King nor the Freelance went fishing this week, so they missed out on the fun ar Catalina.

The El Dorado fished the shallow water at San Nicolas Island on Monday, 12-09-13 and caught 6 Lingcod, to go with limits of Rockfish, some big Sheephead and Whitefish.

Angler Jimmy with a Jackpot winning Sheephead off the ½ day boat Clemente, out of Dana Point, Sunday, 12-08-13:

It remianed very quiet in Ensenada this week?

San Quintin did not have any new reports of Yellowtail being caught, although the weekend weather certainly affected the number of anglers fishing. There is always an incredible assortment of Lingcod, Reds and Rockfish in both deep and shallow water available.

Pretty ladies who fish or maybe not:

Angler Chris with a nice Spotted Bay Bass off of Long Beach:

Angler Rusty with a big Lingcod caught on the ½ day boat out of Newport Beach, Thursday, 12-12-13:

The Channel Islands are exclusively fishing targeting Rockfish. An occasional nice Halibut is being caught. The quantity and quality of Sheephead being caught is outstanding.

Continued good fishing on the Stardust up north:

The Islands

Catalina/Santa Barbara Island!

The Pursuit found the Yellowtail on the chew and are still doing well on the Rockfish, along with a few Calico Bass, Whitefish, and Sheephead.

Captain Duane of Seasons Sportfishing says the big Lingcod, Vermillion Rockfish, and an occasional Cow Cod are on the chew. The bad weather kept them off the water over the weekend, however yesterday's fishing was sensational. Another huge Lingcod:

Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

Hoping everyone had a wonderful Holiday Weekend. Although fishing was most likely not on the agenda for many, with visiting family, Holiday shopping, Christmas decorations, some folks made it out in fairly nice weather.

I made some great headway on Christmas Decorations over the weekend, thanks to some excellent help from my son Troy:

Look at all the cute stuffed animals under the tree, hey there's one that came to life, yep that's our Pug, Misty May:

The Bonito all but disappeared from Catalina, as neither the Pursuit, Sport King nor Freelance was able to find any this week. Say goodbye to the last of the exotics, such as it is, with no Yellowtail or White Seabass in the counts either.

The Pacific Voyager out of Seaforth Landing ran a 1.5 day trip south of the border and returned Sunday, 12-01-13 with 52 Lingcod, and 100 Rockfish and Red Snapper.

The El Dorado fished the shallow water at San Nicolas Island on Saturday, 11-30-13 and caught 63 Lingcod, to go with limits of Rockfish, some big Sheephead and Whitefish.

Nice Lingcod:

The Toronado out of Pierpoint Landing also fished San Nicolas on Sunday, 12-01-13, catching 36 Lingcod and limits of Rockfish for only 18 anglers.

Private boaters fish at San Nicolas Island and whacked the big Lingcod. Some pictures:

Private boater Vince fished with a friend out of Marina Del Rey and slayed the Rockfish and Bass, while doing the same to hooping for Lobster:

No new word out of Ensenada this week, other than Rockfish?

San Quintin also remains quiet and they were the last opportunity to catch Yellowtail this late in the year on a 1 day trip. There is always an incredible assortment of Lingcod, Reds and Rockfish in both deep and shallow water available.

Pretty ladies who fish or maybe not:

Private boater Chris with a nice Calico Bass:

What a sunrise:

Private boater Lal fished with friend Dave locally out of Long Beach on Monday, 12-02-13 and they caught over 16 Bass from 3 to 4.5 pounds.

Big Sheephead off the Enterprise, Sunday, 12-01-13:

Angler Larry with a nice catch off the Enterprise:

Some nice additions to the leader board for the Halibut derby out of Dana Wharf:

The Channel Islands are back to fishing primarily for Rockfish. A few nice Halibut are being caught with an occasional Yellowtail. The quantity and quality of Sheephead being caught is outstanding.

Continued good fishing on the Stardust up north out of Ventura:

It was a Copper kind of day:

Then there were Lingcod:

And other critters:

The Islands

Catalina/Santa Barbara Island!

Both the ¾ day boat Freelance and the Pursuit are doing well on the Rockfish, along with a few Calico Bass, Whitefish, and Sheephead.

San Clemente Island!

Private boater Dave fished the Island on Monday, 12-02-13 and whacked the Big Reds and Santa Marias.
