RE: Help me decide on a new boat
Thanks for your help everyone.
Davis seems to be talked about a lot. They certainly seem solid. I'm curious though, with such a low bow and shallow deadrise how do these boats ride? Seems like it wouldn't be that good. Am I missing something?
Monty, nothing wrong with my boat except that it's too small. The only problem I've had so far is that the board supporting the one of the berth cushions fell off because there wasn't enough thread engagement in the cabin side. I fixed it permanently myself probably better than a dealer would under warranty. I'd prefer to perform all the work myself even under warranty unless it needs an expensive part. Lots of talk about Seaswirls lately, I guess you get what you pay for. Seaswirl never intended it to be compared with lower volume boat builers. They would rather sell average, inexpensive boats. It's been a great starter boat. It's helped me understand what I like and dislike. I know about 500% more now than I did when I bought the boat, lots of learning these past 3 years.
The Yamaha on the other hand is exceptional. Looking under the cowl the quality is obvious. I never had a single problem, never even acted wierd. Gets 3.5-4 MPG anywhere between 3200 and 4000 RPM. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
I'm familiar with Glacier Bay. Lot's of advantages over typical mono hulls. I don't like the cockpit layout. The transom bulkhead kills too much space, similar to my Seaswirl. Aside from that they're great. They ride nice but I'll bet it's not as good as an ACB, ask flattymatty.
What's up with all the talk about Albin on this board?
Thanks, keep the information coming.

RE: Help me decide on a new boat
The Albin 28 is a lot of boat... Very stout and good performer with a single diesel inboard (very economical to run).
They are worth a look, but just now catching on in So Cal.

That would seem to violate the trailerable criteria, Ken.
But I like the boat.....

RE: Help me decide on a new boat
Let's see a 10 foot beam, 12k displacement dry, add about 2100# in liquid capacity, another 500# in basic options.
Then, there's the 1500-2000 lbs trailer.
I guess it could be done with a following vehicle and an F550.
Edit: Can you imagine towing something that is about 35-36 feet long?

Yep, that last picture was what made me think it met the trailerable criteria.
Definitely looks like my ultimate boat!

Boats..
Jason,
There are a lot of good boats that will fit your requirements and budget.. All, will work very well for you..
I suggest that you put a post up for anglers who own 25 foot Parkers... and get some direct feedback from their owners. I don't own a 25, but its little baby brother the 18. But, a couple of my buddies own them and swear by them....
Most guys feel that they get a lot more boat for their investment than with many other brands... I feel you should get the real scoop from owners...
Need I say that the re-sale is great

Might as well add these guys to the list: http://www.hf-boats.com/
Sounds like you need to narrow it down to a few that you like. Put you best argument for your favorite one and let the decision maker do her thing. Have fun.

RE: Help me decide on a new boat
That Bounty 30 is an awsome looking boat. I saw the one at Sunset Aquatic but did not know the manufacturer until seeing this thread.
The only thing I do not like is that it has twin I/Os. In my opinion that means it needs to be stored on a trailer... it just seems like more boat than I would want to launch every time I went out. Keeping it next to the launch ramp as the owner does at Sunset Aquatic would be the only sensible thing.
But wow, as long as you are willing to put it up on the trailer and own a big diesel dually specifically for the purpose, that bounty looks like a great vessel. The I/O power package would perform better than inboard power of the same HP.
I never saw the price on that rig, but it must be up over $150K especially if you have twin yanmar 315s.
By any chance does the guy who owns the one in Sunset Aquatic Dry Storage post here on Allcoast?

RE: Help me decide on a new boat
Take a look at World Class Cats. Very fishable and very smooth ride with plenty of cabin space. The 28 can handle some serious seas. With regards to Parkers (not all), I always wondered what the need was for a pilothouse in SoCal?!? New England I can understand but it's not like you're fishing in Cape Cod weather?!? Just curious...
When my drag starts to scream, I can almost taste the soy sauce!!!

RE: Help me decide on a new boat
If you fish offshore having a pilot house or some sort of protection is a good idea. Even off Diego the weather can get nasty fast. I would never fish in anything else. Even a bimini with side curtains is better than nothing!
