If you are tying to a ring hook, I like a Joe Miller knot. Very small profile.

The strongest knot does not make a difference. Just as long as the knot does not slip. The 130# is so you do not get chewed off.

Personally I tie a three turn uni and pull back the tag end to make a ring. Kind of like a small hangman's noose. I cut the tag end a little bit long in case it slips a little

Five turn reverse Trilene knot, tied ala Ishmael method. Pictures in the archives here somewhere.

If you are not crimping, a 5 turn trilene. The reverse version I find easier to tie. up

The Joe Miller is excellent also but sometimes it doesn't cinch down right. I know that's me and not the knot. Confused

Lot's of choices, let your skill set pick. Everybody seems to have a knot they tie better than the others, go with that one! Shades

I learned how to crimp on my last trip, but I've only fished crimps on my kite rigs. I may revisit that idea before the next time I chase cows.

For me, though, nothing beats an Erwin knot.

Which brand 130lb fluoro? Makes a difference...lots of variation in diameter so it's important to look at this from a diameter viewpoint, not test.

I am asking this because I truly want to know, not being a wiseguy (like I have been known to be Toungue )- But why does this matter?

If I can tie this knot well from 100# FC to 200# FC, why does line diameter matter?

OK good question. My view is that low diameter soft fluoro is a good candidate for your knot. High diameter stiff fluoro should be crimped. So that's the distinction, I think to answer the OP you have to ask, what material are you working with? Simply throwing out a generic 130lb test question cannot be answered properly without qualification, the diameter and material matters when it comes to fluoro, all brands are not reated equal.

That's my view, you have to look at line diameter and brand first before making a recommendation.

I didn't used to think that was true. In my limited experience, I found (for example) Yo-Zuri Pink 130 to be just about as easy to work with as Seaguar Premier 130. Then I tied some knots in Blackwater Shock Leader. I still had no problem tying the knot I wanted, but it was very, very obvious the difference in the Blackwater versus the other brands I'd used. Much thicker and stiffer.

For me, the dividing line is really 150lbs, and if the line is relatively flexible I can still tie good knots in that. But 150 and up is about where I think I would rather crimp moving forward.

I think Basil makes a really good point here.

Thanks for the clarification Basil. I just work with Seaguar Premier, and find knots very reliable and easy to tie. But some other brands are not as soft and pliable.
