Are Crocs still in style?

It's been almost five years since I've been Long Ranging. Going on a 5day in June to hopefully pull on some Yellow's. Thin wallet means what tackle I have is old school. I love to fish Iron or Plastic.Help me match up my rods and reels.

Croc's were never in style!

My initial thought on matching 'em up:

553 4.6 / 6480
553 5.5 / 660H
332 / 80J
TLD 20/40 / 610
Saltist 40h / 610
Penn 501 / 270H-8

IMHO, perfect. Old school or not, that's good tackle for your trip.
Yeah, lose the crocs, XtraTuffs never go out of style.

Team Teva rocks but I like my X-tra Tuff boots, too.

Extra Tuffs are IMO the worst most uncomfortable footwear ever invented......

as far as comfort Crocs are 1000% more comfortable than Extra Tuffs....I love my CrocsToungue. Got then in 4 different colors. but I fish in Keen sandals .

your gear is fine........

Take a look at LaCrosse ankle high rain/rubber shoes...they get warm, but are supportive and comfortable....or Muck boots

re: Are Crocs still in style?

Wearing Croc's was said some what tongue in cheek. It just that it's been some time since I've been long range. I have a old Straggler jig box full of UFO, Kicker, and Straggler jig's mixed up with Tady and Salas. Does anyone still fish the fixed hook UFO #1's for tuna? Back in the day I remember fishing them on 25# for school size yellowfin. Should I take my Seeker 858 with a bantam 50 on it? What Misc. spec. are caught around Cedros? I've still got a few varieties to pull on while I still can. Grouper? Pinto Bass? Cabrella?

Lots of calicos so take your 858 and the Bantam loaded with 15#......there are WSB , halibut and grouper at Cedros.......alll can be caught with dropper loop .....

All those old school jigs will work just fine......

Wow, straggler jigs. That brings back some very old memories.
I remember when I worked on the sports back in the day the guy that made those jigs used to try and give all the deckhands freebies. We would just take them and give them away to newbies that didn't know any better. Wink

Lacrosse

Finding a pair of comfortable boots is a quest for many anglers...

The tradition of Extra Tuff boots is still very ingrained with anglers... Never forget that they are 1940's technology..

If you are intersted in having comfortible feet at the end of the day, you really should look at the Lacrosse Hamption boots. I have turned a lot of guys on to them... they fit like a tennis shoe, and do not require an after market insert... very durable.

You no longer use your Penn 6/0 for tuna, why use boots designed the same time that reel first came out ? You can do a thread search here or on BD.. This topic of boots has come up many times.. you can read many comments by doing the search..

Tight lines,

Jeff

re: Are Crocs still in style?

I'll take comfort over style every time! Especially on a fishing trip! I'm not too concerned with what others think of my fashion sense. I'm much more concerned about having them think I'm a decent fisherman.

I agree with Fishy, x-tra tuffs blow!

I use crocs and muck boots.

re: Lacrosse

I second that emotion on the LaCrosse shorties. As comfortable as sneakers and don't get hot like higher boots. The only disadvantage I've found is getting "scuppered" resulting in a boot full of water. Add some Dr. Scholl's and you're golden.

re: Are Crocs still in style?

Crocs are never in style!
I always were boots for foot protection.
I do have a white set of "Nancy Sinatra" boots that work better in the heat trips. Yep, they look gay, but my feet stay cooler. I often get table dance requests!
Even in tennis shoes, high tops offer more protection, but get wet and that doesn't work.
#1 is protection.
#2 is comfort.
