Dead whale & MUCHO SHARKS!!!

Decide to head to CI for some hooping last night and ran across a floating dead gray whale mid channel. It was Discovery channel "shark week" under the whale and boat. We could not believe how many HUGE sharks were on the dead whale. Makos, blues and one huge great white (18' to 20'). It was amazing to watch them chew on the dead whale (check out the bite marks on the pics). It is out there mid channel so find it and have fun. We were head out of huntington harbor head to the middle of the island for a reference to find the beast around 16 miles out. All pics on camera phones, bummed we didn't bring the digital. Bottom pic of the great white didn't come out to well. Oh ya, left the island with 8 roaches - home by 11:00 PM.

Goodluck,

Kevin

Yes, probably a good idea if the whale dissapears before the trophy hunters find it. Fact is the large adult makos do eat marine mammals and our complaints regarding sea lions becomes mute when the fishing community targets them.

re: Dead whale & MUCHO SHARKS!!!

We were not set up to fish sharks, light out fits to cath macs @ the island. It was amazing to see the great white take a hack off of the whale. It was National Geographic in action right in front of us. I am coureous to see if there are any other reports out there on it.

It was humbling to see so many sharks so close to home. It really has changed my thoughts about taking a dip jumping in on open water.
