Qualifier 105 5 Day Report
Just got back from the 16th annual Barnett Family Charter and it was truly a GREAT TRIP. 2 Days of catching those nice fat YFT at "The Lupe" with midday "rest" catching quality yellowtail on the hook. Then 2 days offshore for lots of Dodos and 2 or 3 around on 40# BFT. Add in the marlin hookup and "Blue Planet" experiences on those huge bait balls with the whales and tuna working the edges and its really something to see. Capt. Joe made all the right calls. Offshore was a little bumpy which made us all glad we were on the most stable fishing platform out of San Diego. You dont even notice the weather while you are fishing.
Chris and Cappy did their usual outstanding job preparing gourmet meals, I think I gained 10#. We had hot sticks and rookies and kids and old farts and the crew did a great job with all of them. In fact all but a few left cash deposits for next year. Get out there now if you can!

Sixteenth Annual
Think about that guys. Now that's a charter! Sounds like you all had a great time. Fishing is great right now, and I'm looking forward to getting out myself. Thanks for taking the time to put up a report and sharing it with us.

Just got a chance to read your report. Thanks Chuck. The report might be short, down and dirty but the pictures tell the story. Smiling faces always make for great photos. An interesting historical fact about the charter is it began when Chuck's father AC won a trip on the Q105 fishing in a tournament that raised money for an orphanage in the early 90's, we have been together ever since. The other little known fact and well kept secret for many years was that many of the anglers came for AC's beef jerky and I hope, the fishing on the Q. It is, by far the finest jerky I have ever tasted. Just don't think you can get a piece by fishing with AC, you have to go for three or four years before you get a chunk...just kidding!! AC is generous to a fault, but don't try to get a piece from the crew stash!
Thanks again for the Q105 crew!
JK

re: Qualifier 105 5 Day Report More photos added
Hey Joe, sorry I was short on details. You set the bar pretty high for trip reports. We had good fishing every day. We got to the YFT at the Lupe before the sharks got the memo and did very well there. Our kite fish were in the 70# range, lots of fish in the 60s. Three to five hanging all the time and a few times they charged the corner for a while.
Seemed like the longer soak was working on those fat yellowtail up to the North a bit but we got a lot of fish on board in a short time. Everyone wanted to get back on the quality tuna at the south end. There were several other boats working that area so we fished offshore the last couple of days and we were rewarded with consistent fishing for 40# Bluefin with lots of other exotics mixed in. Joe had these huge baitballs spotted with BFT all around the edges. It was hard to get back up on them because someone always hooked another fish just as we were getting ready to move back up on the spot. Each time we pulled up to the color spot this giant foamer would go off and everyone would hook up. Pretty epic stuff like 10 years ago. We are all enjoying lots of sashimi and grilled tuna steaks now. A little jalepeno jelly on top of a slightly undercooked BFT steak and I tell you, thats a winner! See you on the water, CB

Chuck,
nice follow-up.
Once I saw your mug in the photos, I realized someone else was must've been responsible for all those great shots. I'm guessing Gary??
Are you going to Cowtown this fall?

re: Qualifier 105 5 Day Report
Hello Joe, still zeroing in on which trip for the fall. Both Oct. trip look very promising, with the possibility that they may open the islands. And those early trip do "whack the wahoo". A couple of the guys are going on the Baker trip and it looks very good as well. Gary did take most of the photos. The first bunch were mine, but the later additions were from his big camera. We had a great trip and lots of photo ops. What are your plans for the big fish season? CB
