re: BUSTED!! BSB guy on the hook now!!
Don't think the guy should get jail time if he truely didn't know...
But I find it hard to beleive nobody on the pier knew what the fish was and whoever knew didn't tell him what it was.
I think he did know what it was before they dragged it on shore for the photo op.
But I wasn't there and couldn't hear anyone yelling Black Seabass in the videos.
He should get LOTS of community service hours scraping bird crap off the pier rail and or working at a fish raising facility for the DFG or at the WSB growout pens.
Teach him to respect the fish he catches and learn what he is supposed to do when he catches something else that needs a quick release back into the water.

This guy wasn't fishing an ugly stick zebco reel,
he knew what was up.
He talked a lot of trash, till things got serious.
Now he's trying to back pedal, little to late in the game.
If this is your average pier angler, they all need to be
licensed and aware of the regs.
This sack makes all look bad, make them all aware.

Bill, he should receive the punishment required by the laws on the books which may be a fine or imprisonment, but that will up to a judge.
Would also be nice, but it won't happen, if the media ran a follow up story on the guys punishment.

Sitting on a pier and did not know a thing about the fish-------
BUT now he knows enuf to have a lawyer-----------
AND he has a story that proclaims how innocent he is----
SO he should be completely absolved of wrongdoing?????
BULLSH*# IMO

You guys are jumping on this guy like he is some jerk who caught, sliced and diced this fish for a deep fry. It is not what I saw. You can impune his motives for fishing with what he fished with if you like, but that rig in that place could have caught a lot of different species. The video appears to show that at the end of the day, he hooked this fish, unknown species, fought it, brought it in, had ALOT of assistance from an unknown zealot and their hook, brought the fish to shore, removed the hooks and tried at length to revive the fish. After about 10 minutes of trying the get water across the gills of this fish, he released this fish to swim on its own. What the h*** would you do? Why are you throwing this guy under the bus?

I have followed this from day one....
You are just as blind as the "stupid" angler (yes "stupid", as I have come to a conclusion that this person chose to violate DFG laws). I have watched ALL the videos, and read his arrogant and smart ass replies to the comment sections of the videos on youtube, which he quickly removed/deleted once he realized his ass was grass....this guy is riding the wave created by "ignorant" people like yourself, and he's now playing the victim card...if you can't see this, then you are as as blind as he is.
I was willing to give the guy some slack, but now, i hope he is punished to the fullest extent of the law.

So maybe I'm blind, and deaf. Seems like I walked right into a thread that is weeks old and this has been boiling for two three weeks now. Quite a boil ya got goin. So before you add me to this pot, I'm going to withdraw from this burner. Cook it as you see fit. I said my say over what I read. Perhaps I didn't read all that was out there. Didn't know there was more. Still and all, if the guy was full o st*t than hang'im
Wasn't there and will never know. What I do know is there are some on this thread that seem to have forgotten that you don't have to beat up the world to make your point. Perhaps they live really close to the fire and and you're always on fire. Don't know. I do know that this can be a dangerous place to not agree.
Good luck. Hope you're always right.

re: BUSTED!! BSB guy on the hook now!!
personally, i don't see the big deal...i'm sure the guy did not wake up that morning and say 'today i'm going to catch and kill a black sea bass'.
$hit happens, it's clear to me that they handled the whole thing badly....it's not how most anglers would have handled it. but none the less, it is obvious that he was making an attempt at releasing it in the end....any lawyer worth his salt will get him off the hook(pun intended).
i find it strange that the 'band wagon' wants his head on a pike...i also find the outrage amusing and hypocritical...i think the same people that are outraged by this don't give a second thought to waking up in the morning with plans to catch and release a fish...tricking some poor fish into thinking it has an easy meal and forcing a hook deep into its mouth...taking the chance of killing a fish simply for thier own selfish pleasure..
it's easy to sit back and judge someones actions while justifying your own..cut the guy a little slack, he was obviously not intending to catch a sea bass that day.
