Number of boards has killed the board.
The boards are so slow here in part because of the Proliferation of Boards. I am waiting for a Fisherman with crooked noses board here soon. Blue Water board????? C'Mon Man!!! What would you call the Long Range Board?? Tuna Board? etc. etc. etc. These boards should be consolidated until there is more action on the boards.

I certainly would vote to go back to the old boards. I wonder how many would agree.
I am coming to the boards less and less since the change.

re: Number of boards has killed the board.
It's a business guys, and I'm sure they must have data that lends itself favorable, to this format.
On a large scale, it must appeal to the WWW mentality.
Myself, I find in cold, and lacking the family, or local "gathering spot" feel, that I felt Allcoast enjoyed for all those years. My participation here is mostly habitual, and I can honestly see a day I no longer have the desire to invest, at this domain.
This is not a dig on George, or those whom he entrust to run and manage the site, I offer it purely constructively, from my perspective only.
My oldest son is heavy into the INTERNET business world. It really is the new frontier as far as business research, advertising, and putting people and products together. You can't fault a man who desires to make a success of something, even if in the process it leaves me with a certain void.
The world would be so much better... without intolerant people....

Dan,
In the recent update we got rid of a good deal of boards... probably half? to which I have gotten some degree of grief over.
That being said, what would you guys like to see gotten rid of? If people feel that there are still to many, that can happen, just give some feed back and we will do what we can.

re: Number of boards has killed the board.
I've seen no "slow down" ..... if anything, improvements to the server situation over the last three months has produced a noted improvement, in addition to the tweaking of the forum software has improved responsiveness and over all speed of the Allcoast forums on my computer.
As my experience differs from yours, I might suggest you examine issues on your computer, like virus or malware infection being the cause of the slow down there...... it could be the problem.
Is your Structured Settlement payment stream now working against your need for all of the CASH NOW?

Did you actually take a look at the site? Your complaint seems a tad bit late.
The Blue Water board that you cite is what USED to be the old Shark/Swordfish board and the Marlin board. These WERE consolidated!
And as TunaChuck pointed out, many others were consolidated or done away with completely.
So that would lead me to ask just what is your actual complaint and where have you been lately?

Wow.... Good news for a change
Personally I think George and his staff are doing a great job cleaning this place up. They've already made some good changes, and it sounds like more good stuff is right around the corner.

re: Number of boards has killed the board.
There are fewer boards than before the consolidation. I haven't noticed a greater slowing on either my home or work computer, and in both cases the time to load a page seems to be mostly to load all the ads, which won't change regardless.
Do you have any thoughts in particular?

"Long Range Board" and "Tuna Board" used to be two boards.

Wow, that was a really long time ago. And there's not enough participation for it to even be one board lately. Need the paddles nurse, CLEAR!

It does seem that this web site is dieing.
I'll come home from work and check for new post in the boards I'm interested in and there's nothing.
Its a difficult thing to try and revamp... from the moding side you can alter the structure of the boards all you want, and promote good sportsmanship among the posters, but it really comes down to the posters desire to post and share info.
its kind of like the economy, you tell everyone its tanking, they all stop spending, and it get worse.
I feel there are a bunch of people who are in the same boat of checking all the time to see what new post someone else started but not starting one them self. That sounds like a personal jab, and I don't mean it to be, but rather a comment on the situation as a whole.
As for the "for sale/boats for sale", the tec guy Jim is putting together a new format for the whole shebang, I'll think you'll like it a lot.
And the Pol board was very nearly gotten rid of, but those guys down there were none to excited about the idea. so instead we made it so it doesn't show on the homepage, and put a disclaimer window on it before you open it. And there is always the option to use the "ignore" function in the user settings.
