My vote for 1/2 day is the redondo special. Its a funny looking boat, but fishy and the crew is great. I learned to fish out here on that boat.

I would add the Coroloma out of Capt. Hooks to the list also. They treated my 10 year old son great.

RE: Collecting Names of 'Kid Friendly' Public Sportfishing Boats

Hi there Hithard,

Thank you for contributing, period and ..... for voicing one of what I think should be one of the 'written in stone' tenants.

That is ... the first few times you take a kid... please go on a weekday (even if ya gotta take off). Especially on the 1/2 day boats as they are usually smaller and crowded as the deck will have more time for the individual angler, there should be less pressure on the boat, and more than a few regulars (in my experience) are older and often kinder. I know I am.

Second tenant is.... 'Don't make a kids' first trip on a twilight at the peak of the sandbass migration'). Smile

Thanks for the boats,

tsurikichi

While there are many charter boats out there that cater to kids...I think the Victory out of Long Beach Sportfishing is a high ranker. In fact my 14 year old son David is in his 4th year as a pinhead and is in charge of making sure kids have fun. My 16 yr old daughter Amanda is the galley girl on Sundays and is great with little anglers. So if you want an atmosphere where kids are well treated...then the Victory would be a good choice.

I can second CharlieM on the Victory suggestion. I started really getting hooked onto fishing when I was younger on that boat because of the skippers always helping me and giving me advice.

Hey there CharlieM and Kicker,

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't been on the boat in a while and we know how things can vary on a boat simply with who they are and how the deckies do their job.

i would have to say that the nautilus out of newport landing is very kid friendly also. Trish, both Ryans, and Chris all seem to be very good with kids. One of the captains, Jeff, has a 10 or 11 year old so he is also really good with kids. i would definitly add the nautilus to the list

I don't consider my kids to be kids anymore, but when I started taking them out on party boats, they were treated well on the Dana Wharf Sportfishing 3/4 day boats.

Dana Wharf still has their "Kids Club" program. $5 membership gets them discounts on merchandise, trips, etc.

I'm a newbie on AC but have been fishing out here locally since the late 70's. Major Kudos on your part for starting this thread. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I look forward to sharing great info with all of you soon.

You have the New Del Mar incorrectly listed as being out of Redondo Sportfishing.

The New Del Mar is out of Marina del Rey.

Hi again Hot Rail,

Know this thread will be useful.... to kids, adults, parents, and grand parents! Also I hope readers don't overlook the fact we have a 'kidsfishing' board newly re-established that is a forum specifically for info related to kids and fishing.
