Local Long Beach Report,Not Bad!6/21/12

Got to Davies around 7am,overcast cool, and very low tide.
After hearing about all the sandbass slaying they have been doing I talked Bubba into going south (mistake),we went to the flats and then to Izors for a bunch of nothing.
Now it's about 10:00am and were sporting the big skunk!
So I suggest we head south back to the rockpile and some other reefs on the west end of the Shoe.
As were coming back we see the armada (7party boats,20+pbrs)man I was mad,all we would of had to do on our way out is look over our shoulder and we would have seen the fleet behind us!
They were just outside of LB which I guess some would call the east end of the shoe.
They must have been wacking the barries all morning, but we still caught and lost our share,it was kinda interesting, when we got there about 11:00,the bite was pretty good, then about 12:30 or so most of the Cattle boats started leaving, they were all drift fishing by the way.
I know some of them were half day boats but alot of them weren't,Victory,Freelance,Sportking, ect.
Anyway once they left the bite died,I mean really died,oh well,we continued to some reefs for some more nothing and called it a day about 1:30,ended up with 8barries,and thats it.
All in all not a bad day.

Thanks Ron,yeah on the way out of the harbor it was 65dgrs,but the next time I looked at the sonar, which was once we were out fishing it was 61.7dgrs.
Hope to go out again next week, probably tues or wed, then headed to Morro Bay for a couple of days, been craving those fish n chips at Giovanis!
And of course the cold adult beverage sitting by the bay doesn't hurt either, when are you going out again, man the sporties yesterday were plugged.

Looking at Terrafin there is a cold water plum pushing in off Palos Verde's in front of Lon beach around to the 14.

There is a large mass of 64-F from two harbors in the the 250-F off Long beach to the west side of the 14 mile bank.

That break is a good hunting place for makos and threshers but to my understanding most of the life has been on the south side of the cold water plume below the 14 mile bank where there is an eddy with good chlorophyll being lifted in the normal place from the under current.

That would be a good place to hunt predators and there was a swordfish sighted by San Diego whale watching of La Jolla a few days ago.

Swordfish water is on fronts is 58-65-F but can be higher in upwelling areas for so cal.

Hopefully this is related to your asking about the SST other wise please disregard.

Thanks Vic hope you have a great season and thanks for sharing your report i enjoyed it.

Where ever the Cuda are the Threshers could be feeding on them.

This link is the free Terrafin chart with a general outline of the SST.

http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/sst/contour/californ.c.gif

NOAA chart of the big picture looks like the 17-C front is breaking up California current is pushing south reducing the early warm water that pushed in closing the door on a lot of predators like average size makos and breeder threshers posibbly keeping in the ones that are inside as long as their is substantial prey available.

It's possible Salmon sharks could still be outside in the colder water on large prey concentrations.
