7 Mahi and 1 MERMAID
Another great trip fishing for Mahi Mahi and My first sighting of a Mermaid ! LOL Regina an I went to Catalina for the long weekend, but only fished on Sunday due to the High Winds and waves. We headed out off the east end of Catalina, and 3 miles out Regina spots a kelp Paddy with birds diving ! Yep its the one we want. We worked the paddy for 7 nice Dorado. We were using small circle hooks and a 20 lb. topshot of flouro..When the fishing slowed down, I dove into the 74.3 degree Royal Blue water and speared 3 nice Mahi but the spear pulled through on ALL of them..Oh well, Ill be more prepared next time. Came back to the long point area to anchor for the night and what do we see. A MERMAID off the back of a sail boat..LMAO Hope everyone had a great Holiday. Tim

Hi Tunavic, Im glad you enjoy the Photos. We try to show our fish in there most beautiful colors. Seconds after gaffing them we snap a few pics while they are still vibrant with color. Thanks for your compliments.
Hi Tsurikichi, the acrobatics and beauty of these fish make every battle unique. What an amazing fish !

Thanks Rdsknsfan, I appreciate the Adda Boy. I hope the reports help others to catch fish and help pass the hours while not fishing. Tim

Nice pics and story...if you are using a straight shaft with barbs on it, try switching to a detachable slip tip and plastic coated ss cable...the flexing of the cable won't give the fish leverage to pull off, as it is fighting the cable and not a fixed shaft..
"Baluga"38' twin-diesel UnifliteShorelina Marina, Long Beach, CA "Dive deeper", said the dolphin, and I followed...

Hi Bob, thanks for your advice. I havent used my spear gun in years, so I had multiple problems. One being that the tip didnt release and never turns sideways to hold the fish..One lost. second shot all was good, tip released but the reel locked up and the fish was dragging me through the water until the cable ripped through the fish..Second fish lost....Third fish was just a poor shot and didnt get a solid shot and pulled ...I will be more prepared next time !!!!!!!!
