Catalina BUG Slam 2012

I made a run over to Catalina for 4 days with my friend Frank for some hoopnetting. Making Mackeral for bait was easy and fun. Catching up to 2-4 at a time with the lucky joe rigs. All you needed to do is cut up some chum and put the rigs in the water and it was all you wanted..Well for the next 3 nights we limited out and put our multi day permit to use. It took some work, but we were determined to get our share..We started every night at 630pm and finished around 2am in the morning..Yes we needed the Aleve after each night's marathon.surprise..LOL One morning I put together some Spicy cut lobster and eggs to reward us for our pains. Until next time.. Tim

re: Catalina BUG Slam 2012

Thanks for your replies, I hooped through the storm on Thursday night and I think it stirred things up pretty good. The bugs were on the crawl all night. Tide didnt seem to matter. I also talked a buddy who hooped locally and did well also. Hope this helps.. Im ready for a Lobster burrito right about now .. Tim

re: Catalina BUG Slam 2012

Nice catch but you guys are way over your limit!!!

You may only have in possession your bag limit of 7 lobsters each at any one time, including lobsters at home. Here is an excerpt from DFG below:

Q. What is the daily bag limit for lobster? The possession limit?

A. According to Section 29.90(b) T14, CCR, the daily recreational bag limit is seven lobsters per person. Additionally, Section 1.17 states that no more than one daily bag limit may be taken or possessed by any one person unless otherwise authorized (see Declaration for Multi-Day Fishing Trip, Section 27.15 T14, CCR), regardless of whether they are fresh, frozen or otherwise preserved. This means that if you have a limit of seven lobsters at home, you cannot go out and get more lobsters until the first limit is disposed of in some way (eaten, given away, etc).

Considering just the two of you fishing, you could receive a huge fine or even worse by the looks of your posted picture.

re: Catalina BUG Slam 2012

Dear, Whitewash Nice 1st post. Really down ..but you are way off on your information. Im allowed to have up to Three limits with my multi-day permit. Read the first 3 lines on the permit. Yes I can only have 7 in my freezer your correct, but I have family and friends I "GIFT" my lobster too ....Is there a problem with taking a photo of my catch before I give them away ? I called the DFG and they said," I am 100% in compliance " with the regulation.. Now go out and get some for yourself...Good luck this season...I hope your next post will be a Fish REPORT with you showing off some Lobster....Tim

It's funny how you assumed Tim did not have a multiday permit before you posted your first post. Confused

If you have been around here or read most reports here you will find that most all of us follow the DFG rules and regs to the tee and are probably even more conservation minded than the general public that does not fish or hunt.

re: Catalina BUG Slam 2012

Ok sorry my bad. You guys are all good...

I still nfeel that a vast majority including myself don't realize the extent of DFG regs. Lesson to be learned by everyone is that only 7 in possession at any one time except for multiday permit. Your friends must be very appreciative,

Good bug hunting in the future!
