Cory Visser, of Long Beach, has been fishing for over 50 years. He has never had a boat of his own but is always there for captains who need a good crew. He is proud that he was once part of a crew that caught a Grand Slam of tuna on a one-day trip.

Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

The beat goes on for the Bluefin Tuna fishing this week Offshore, on fish averaging 40 to 65 pounds. Find the right school and it is limit style fishing. The better fishing is between 80 and 100 miles, best suited for the 1.5 day trips or longer. One day trips are still finding fish, although they are limited in time, and if the school is found later in the day, the quantities landed are reduced, especially considering the size of the fish.

Still plenty of smaller grade Yellowtail being found on the right kelp paddy, along with some Dorado. The Yellowfin Tuna counts have been dropping with the water temps. The longer trips offshore allow for concentrating on both the Tuna species.

Most one day sport boats have been fishing the Tuna Pens near Ensenada, between 55 and 60 miles south of San Diego, where most of the Bluefin are being found in one day range. The private boater looking for Tuna has found the Pens to be the best bet, while many others have concentrated on Kelp Paddies inside 40 miles.

The Coronado Islands are still yielding Yellowtail to 35 pounds. Here is angler Drew with a nice Yellowtail caught Sunday, 10-12-13:

Bonito at Catalina and Yellowtail at San Clemente highlight the fishing at the local Islands.

Some nice Dorado pictures from the recent Eclipse trip:

The Channel Islands are back to fishing primarily for Rockfish. A few nice Halibut are being caught with an occasional Yellowtail and a spot of Barracuda adding to the action. The Island Tak caught 24 Yellowtail on their weekend trip.

Some Sand Bass are being caught on the few Twilight trips being scheduled! Here is a nice Sand Bass caught off the Native Sun on their weekend Twilight trip:

Good Rockfishing out of Newport Beach:

Angler Ron fished on the 3/4 day boat Victory out of Pierpoint Landing on Wed-10-16. They did well on the Rockfish. Some pictures:

Catalina/Santa Barbara Island!

Bonito have returned to the Island and the ¾ day boat Freelance has been finding limit fishing on their recent trips.

The Pursuit is doing well on the Rockfish, when not targeting the Bonito, along with a few Calico Bass, Whitefish, and Sheephead.

The Sport King is catching both Rockfish and Bonito on their trips to the Island.

San Clemente Island!

The Thunderbird fished the Island Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 and landed 48 Yellowtail!

Down South-San Diego and good ole Mexico!

Captain Duane of Seasons Sportfishing got on the fish again last weekend, continuing the great Fall fishing offshore:

Duane took a break from the Tuna fishing and killed the Lingcod and other bottom critters:

Captain Kelly says the Tuna to 50 pounds and the Dorado are still biting in San Quintin as they caught these beauties over the weekend:
