Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.
The beat goes on for the Bluefin Tuna
fishing this week Offshore
, on fish averaging 40 to 65 pounds. Find the right school and it is limit style fishing. The better fishing is between 80 and 100 miles, best suited for the 1.5 day trips or longer. One day trips are still finding fish, although they are limited in time, and if the school is found later in the day, the quantities landed are reduced, especially considering the size of the fish.
Still plenty of smaller grade Yellowtail
being found on the right kelp paddy, along with some Dorado
. The Yellowfin Tuna
counts have been dropping with the water temps. The longer trips offshore allow for concentrating on both the Tuna species.
Most one day sport boats have been fishing the Tuna Pens
, between 55 and 60 miles south of San Diego, where most of the Bluefin are being found in one day range. The private boater looking for Tuna has found the Pens to be the best bet, while many others have concentrated on Kelp Paddies inside 40 miles.
The Coronado Islands
are still yielding Yellowtail to 35 pounds. Here is angler Drew with a nice Yellowtail caught Sunday, 10-12-13:Bonito
