Cory Visser

Cory Visser, of Long Beach, has been fishing for over 50 years. He has never had a boat of his own but is always there for captains who need a good crew. He is proud that he was once part of a crew that caught a Grand Slam of tuna on a one-day trip.

Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:
A Summary of local fishing from Santa Monica to Oceanside, including Catalina and San Clemente Islands, with fishing trips out of San Diego down to Baja, Mexico.

Wow, what can I say: Four days of rain, followed by a couple of days of fog and wind, no bueno for fishing! Yes, there were a few who ventured out, mostly ½ day and ¾ day boats fishing locally. A private boater or two or more ventured out in the weather to drift for Halibut or hoop for Bugs. I don't do Hoop reports, that's not fishing to me? On the positive side, the weather does look good for this weekend and into the middle of next week.

There have been a few decent catches of Halibut lately, some big Lingcod, and the "Magician" private boater Matt, found some White Seabass on the chew to go with some good Reds and Lingcod fishing. It was only last week, when he woke everyone up, by catching big Home Guard Yellowtail. Some pictures of the White Seabass and Rockfish:

This week, Sergio says:

Just another pretty lady that fishes:

Local Fishing: Out of Dana Wharf Sportfishing the ½ day boat Sum Funhad a decent day of Bass fishing on Wednesday, 12-05-12 catching 29 Calico Bass, 30 Sand Bass, 3 Sheephead, 4 Rockfish, 1 Sculpin and 1 Cabazon.

A bit of humor according to Julie:

In Santa Monica the 3/4 day boat Redondo Special had a great day on their Wednesday, 12-05-12 trip catching 2 Sheephead, 139 Rockfish and 3 Lingcod. The New Del Mar had a decent day of Lingcod fishing on Thursday, 12-06-12, catching 9 Sheephead, 245 Rockfish and 7 Lingcod.

Some decent Sand Bass fishing in Marina Del Rey:

Out of San Pedro, the ½ day boat Monte Carlo had a decent trip Saturday, 12-01-12, 1 catching 3 Sheephead, 38 Rockfish and 64 Red Snapper.

According to Captain Eric, the Halibut are biting out of Long Beach:

Out of Newport Beach, the Thunderbird fished Saturday, 12-01-12 and caught 75 Rockfish 1 Lingcod 50 Perch.

Lal should enjoy this one; life is an assortment of Chocolates:

Private boater Japan Ron provided some pictures off the ¾ day boat Victory:

The Islands

Catalina/Santa Barbara Island!

Captain James of the Grande, private boating over the weekend, caught a nice Yellowtail:

The Sport King had a good day at the Island on Tuesday, 12-04-12 catching 6 Sheephead, 1 Whitefish, 22 Bocaccio, 10 Rockfish, 8 Lingcod and 82 Red Snapper.
The Pursuit out of 22nd St. Landing, ran to the Island on Tuesday, 12-04-12, with 15 anglers catching 1 Calico Bass, 10 Sheephead, 5 Whitefish, 30 Bocaccio, 102 Rockfish, 2 Sculpin, 150 Perch and 10 Red Snapper.

San Clemente Island!
Angler Troy with a massive Sheephead caught on ghost shrimp:

Down South-San Diego and good ole Mexico! Not much happening! A few boats scheduled for 1.5 day Rockfish trips this weekend. The 1/2 day boat New Seaforth caught a Yellowtail to go along with a good assortment of critter fishing.

Something to think about:

According to Captain Kelly the Halibut are on a serious chew down in San Quintin:

OH yeah and a possible world record 400+ lb Yellowfin Tuna was caught this week off the Excel:

All comments and suggestions welcomed!

One final thought:

WeatherThe weather forecast for both Saturday and Sunday looks to be nice and calm, so get out and go fishing. Always check the latest forecast before leaving the dock.

Hi Cory,

Nice installment per usual !! Bet that YFT will make lots of sashimi !! Looks like the moo-moos' patrons are still pulling in the Bass !! Wish there had been an actual slot instead of just the upping of the minimum alowable length.

Thanks for the effort,

Hi Josa, too cool, thanks for the feedback!

Ron so glad about your injury being less painful and serious. I am looking forward to the next time we share a rail together.

Japan Ron-The Bass are definitely on the chew, see my recent report with Lal. Hope your family reunion goes well!
