I just got an MXL from a buddy of mine with a seeker black steel rod. I don't know the number of it, but it's a 25lb rod. I was wondering what is the max line I can put on the MXL. I'm going to start it out with 50 lbs spectra with a topshot of 25lb. At least that's what I was thinking.

Any thoughts?

I fish mine with 50# spectra backing and a 30# topshot...I have the 2-speed but the drags are the same in the 1 and 2 speeds...I've caught YFT on the east Cape to 70# with it I use mine on a seeker 6470 blue exreme e glass Grabowski Special I also put the larger handle on it.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have just the single speed. I'm probably only going to be using for 1-3 day trips fishing smaller grade tuna so I figured there wasn't too much need for a 2 speed. I can't wait to try out the set up. I think I'll stick with 50/25 and see how it goes.
