re: Big Al 303 on the Yummee

If I could have written the script, this is how it would have turned out. I can only hope I can aspire to the level of Al Scow as a person and a fisherman.
Mine only came to 297 pounds, but I was so glad Al's fish weighed 303, and he won the High Roller jackpot.
Things are definitly a little tough for me today, but not from this. I am pleased as punch Al went over 300.
What a great group of guys.

If you're fishing it on the kite the large circle or the J-hook's are fine but when you're trying to work at skipping the yummee in and out on the balloon you have less control over that rubber fishy so I think it looks more natural skipping with the 5/0 treble hooks rigged out of the tail ready to snag that cow. Question is, are the Owner Stinger 4X trebles strong enough to not bend out on such a fish?

Personally, I used a Mustad 39960 20/0 circle hook.
I've heard the big Js don't always stick so big trebles are added. Wahoodad using a 20/0 circle, now that is having the thinking cap on. Smart, very smart rig. Want a really big YFT, use a really big YFT hook. Good one!:tu:

REK.

ps. so how are these things rigged?

I used the 20/0 circle, rigged up through the body. Through the eye of that hook, another short leader is rigged, and that gets the 5/0 Owner Stinger treble, which rides 6-8 inches behind the flyer body.
