Boat sunk in LA harbor by submerged object!

Went to Cabrillo ramp on Sunday to pull out the Cabo and there was quite a scene at the ramp. A 32' express-style Boat-show looking boat, like a Cruisers, Inc. type ride was being crained off the ramp onto a flatbed. It had a hole in the bottom about 16" around and one of the two Merc drives had been busted and was dangling off the transom. Apparantly the owner was cruising inside the wall and had struck an object, probably a sunk log or telephone pole by the looks of the hole, and went down. The owner said it sank fast, too fast to do anything, and sank stern first with it's final resting at a portion of the bow poking towards the sky. Coasties, Harbor Patrol and his insurance did the tow in and crane to the flatbed. It hurt to look at- I am glad nobody was hurt. Totalled- engines scrapped, electrical gone, interior waterlogged and smelling like oil and fuel. Be careful inside the Harbor as this happens alot, primarily props being target #1, but this guy got the bonus prize. I believe the culprit is still at large.
