California had the most accidents in 2005, 630 boating accidents to be exact.

California also had the most reported fatalities and boating accidents due to alcohol.
A total of 32 people in California died in 57 different alcohol-related boating accidents in 2005.

The primary 2 causes that contributed to the most accidents were careless/reckless operation and operator inattention.

How does this figure out as far as fresh water and saltwater. I have seen some insane people in fast boats on fresh water that keep me mostly in saltwater fishing. The Colorado River and Lake Havasu are scary sometimes. Please be safe, sane and sober.

Page-44 suggests there are far more freshwater versus saltwater accidents.

I can vouch for that, having almost creamed an invisible tinnie in the dark this summer, you cannot be careful enough out there or have enough safety gear. Good post, John..
