Planning a camping trip for the family and thinking about heading up to the Central Cal area, probably sometime in late August. I've been looking at campgrounds along the coast from the San Simeon area to as far North as Limekiln Creek. Any thoughts on the surf fishing prospects up that way? Also, I know there are some restricted areas (MPAs) up that way and any info on the restrictions would be greatly appreciated. I have been to the DFG website, but the map is pretty broad in scope.

Thanks in advance.

Almost any beach with sand or sanbars up there produces some of the best BSP fishing to be had in CA. I like Moonstone Beach, Pico Creek and IMO the best spot is Sand Dollar Beach just in front of Plaskett Creek/
FYI: You best check for availability on any campgrounds up there especially in August. My wife and I go up there quite a bit and we use our parents motorhome but find it almost impossible to aquire a camp spot. Some of the campgrounds are booked a full year in advance. Go in the off season after the hoards of tourists have departed. Actually, right now is primo time to go. I'm headed up there for a surf trip tomorrow and take advantage of this high pressure system setting up and I NEVER go without my surf fishing gear.
Good luck :)

Check out Piedras Blancas (White Rocks)
2 bird poop big rocks offshore. Elephant Seal spot where you can park on Hwy 1 and walk down to these massive beasts. Give them plenty of room and don't get between them and the water.
Find a spot to surf fish and it could get real hairy
when your standing thier all relaxed and one of them
comes out of the surf at you

Nice place to kill a couple hours and its free :tu:

Here's 2 pic with the the lower one showing the Lighthouse. DR

Thanks for the info guys. So it sounds like most of the beaches do produce...cool. I'll definitely look into making reservations...I see that just about every weekend has every campground up the coast booked solid through the month of August...there is some availability mid-week I think. I'll be making some calls.

Thanks again...keep it coming!!!:)
