After seeing the reports the past couple of weeks my dad and I decided to give it a go saturday. We launched around 5ish, made a few macks and started trolling. We kept trolling and trolling and trolling. Around 12:30 we saw another boat that was stopped and was dealing with a thresher boat-side and while we were watching them, from a safe and respectable distance, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz HOOKUP!!!!!

I pulled on the fish:

My dad pulled on the fish:

The ocean turned red:

And this was the end result:

It was my dad's first thresher. We guestimated 160ish.

Sounded like there were a handful caught today. We got ours out in about 1200 or so feet.

For those curious abou the bonito bite, we only heard of some being caught at the south 9. Sounded like it was pretty good down there.

Glendon,

Nice thresher....how were the crowds Saturday?

Jimbo and I pounded sand for a half day Friday for a few shorts. [email protected]

Thanks Matty. The crowds weren't too bad. There were quite a few boats out there, but everyone worked well together I thought. No problems with crossed lines or too close to one another, ect...

The water is warming up fast though, so I'm guessing the halibut will start biting pretty good relatively soon, both down there and in LA Harbor.

Thanks for the report!

It's fun to share a fish like that, especially with the old man. We enjoy being on the water together and catching fish is always gravy, just happens to that it was 160 pounds of gravy this time. :)
