I am trying to plan a 5-6 day trip, the ones that usually go to Guadalupe/Cedros/ Benitos. I have 2 small windows...mid July to mid August....or mid November. I would like to get your thoughts on what time of year is best. Let me know. Thanks.

Yo AWA, You already made your decision. 5 - 6 Day trips RARELY go out in November. That time of year is mostly set for longer trips. The Vagabond has one in mid november that I believe last year did have a pretty good trip. Normally it could be a lousy time to go for that duration. Mid August is a wonderful time to go. Nothing wrong with July either but I would probably pick August. Pick a date or pick a boat and get your reservation as soon as possible. Sometimes those trips get loaded quickly if the reports are good. One other thing I would suggest would be to go on some of the big boats archives such as the EXCEL. They have the daily reports going back many, many years. You can look at past dates and see what the boats were getting at the times you are curious about. You can kind of work backwards to see what length trips they were on. 2007 was a tough one as it was kind of unusual as the Lupe was very much hit or miss and the Yellowtail and Cedros pretty much saved trips for many of the boats. I will be 5 days on the Shogun in July with the Bob Sands trip, 6 days in August/Sept. on the big Excel and 10 days in November on the wonderful new boat The Intrepid. With several other trips before and after. Get jig bit for me. Jamie

I was on a 5 day on the Shogun in July 2006. If the tuna are not going good on the way down and back you get a long boat ride to Cedros. Wide open 20-30lb yellowtail though. If you hit albacore/bluefin schools you can do real well.

Any day on the water is a GREAT day. Summer months you get longer time at the rail. I don't think that many go in Nov. Most trips starting in Nov are 10 days or longer on the code group boats or bigger ones. Have taken many 5 day trips in my time, but honestly, 8 days are perfect trips. You get a much larger choice of fish to catch. Check out the RP, Shogun, Vag, RS, hell there are many great fishing platforms to fish on. Like I said, Any day on the water is a Great day.

There is space available on our 5-day charter on the Independence. It departs Aug 9 and returns Aug 14. Call me at the store (310) 832-2429 if you are interested and I will pass your info to Judy. The trip is usually full, but we had some cancellations.

Good fishing,
