Conditions looked good, but the water was filled with coral this morning in my area of Huntington Beach, making fishing difficult. Managed to get into one area of flats at low tide where it wasn't so bad and picked up this guy, who taped out at 21" (but fought like he was plenty legal). Caught him on a rubber-tailed fly.

the rubber tail straightens out in the water and gives wiggling/swimming action

the only problem is the tails get bitten off so you need a good supply of them - even with the tail bitten off only halfway that stops the action of the fly and they stop hitting it

this thing is the only pattern I've been getting any real action on as of late - got 4 hand-sized BSP in the surf yesterday with it
