Conditions looked good, but the water was filled with coral this morning in my area of Huntington Beach, making fishing difficult. Managed to get into one area of flats at low tide where it wasn't so bad and picked up this guy, who taped out at 21" (but fought like he was plenty legal). Caught him on a rubber-tailed fly.

Very nice. :tu: I've been tempted to start fly fishing on both shore and on the water (islands and offshore). Looks like fun.

very cool, thanks for the report. I am taking my an Easter European vacationer sufr fishing today. I dont think we will get into one of those but I hope for some fish

I used to tie a fly similar to that. I used hackle material saturated with silicone, then shaped into the curl-tail shape...let dry then trim a little.

the rubber tail straightens out in the water and gives wiggling/swimming action

the only problem is the tails get bitten off so you need a good supply of them - even with the tail bitten off only halfway that stops the action of the fly and they stop hitting it

this thing is the only pattern I've been getting any real action on as of late - got 4 hand-sized BSP in the surf yesterday with it
