Thanks everyone.

Every little bit helps.

Thanks for the info MarkT.

Truliner, Thanks for your info as well. I didn't know that this blank had the same specs as the ATC model. That's spooking me a little bit. I'd busted a ATC909H and have seen two other ATC rods snap (on the same trip) :? I love how the ATC's fish but from what I have seen they don't do well with spectra and a heavy drag. :(

Lets hope that Phenix got it right.

graya, please let me know what you find out.

Thanks again,
Samson

phenix bought a lot of the old shikari inventory. they might have some of the old shikari blanks left but that was a few years ago. i have heard of problems of ATCs breaking. if you like that 909H then buy the Tady TL-91. its a beefed up 909h. made off the same mandrel just more material in the top section. plus, if you break a tady rod they will give you a new one as long as you broke it on a fish and did not abuse it.

Thanks for the specs and info graya,

Now all I need to do is decide on what blank to go with. Do I roll with the Phenix 909H, or the Tady TL-91? Feel free to toss any other 9 footer ideas my way.

I'll be fishing this rod with a Accurate B2-870N with 65# Jerry Brown and 5' of 40# Blackwater Fluorocarbon. Fishing mostly at the local islands for WSB and YT.

Thanks for all the help

the Tady TL-91 is similar to the 909H but is a little faster action and has more backbone. there is more material in the upper 1/3 of the rod compared to the 909H. they are based off the same mandrel. as far as the picture goes, its amazing. i believe that is a new material from china that they are using. however dont let that demonstration fool you. make sure that rod is sensitive still and not really heavy.

The phenix black diamond 909h is made from completely different materials than the atc/shikari 909h. The phenix materials are made in Japan and is a carbon fiber/boron composite, while the atc/shikari were a glass/graphite composite. The actions are similar but the black diamond is way stronger and will last a LOT longer than the atc. The best way is for you to go to a dealer and look at the blank yourself. Check how thick the blank is and yet how light it is. This is a new breed of rods, probably why it comes with a premium price.

The Phenix 909H it's different it's a smaller diameter than the Shikari 909H i was given the wrong info the guy from phenix called me and told me his 909H is smaller in diameter i have 5 wrapped Phenix rods and this rods are very sensitive and fast taper if fished with in it's line ratings but you have the option to fish heavier lines this rods have tremedous lifting power this rods use different materials it's not graphite rods are made in china with Japanes materials you should pull on some for your self they have a faster taper than the tady's i own rods from from the major companies and so far this rod are thinner in diameter and have more lifting power than the other rods i own here a picture of a rod rated 10-30lbs with a lift of 20 pounds as you can see this rod was meant to fish with around 6 to 8 pound of drag but you have the option to over fish it.
