1139 Views 16 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  TopShot25
i'm hoping to take my kayak out saturday morning for a few hours of butt fishing in the harbor. assuming of course it's not too windy early. this will be the first i've ventured out of newport or huntington harbor to fish, so i'm really looking forward to it. i'll post a report when i get back. anyone else gonna be out there that wants to give me some bait? :)

I'm not sure if I'm fishing saturday or not.
L.A. Harbor is 1 option though, or SMB, or . .
I really need to go see Nacho.
Give me a jingle this evening.

Edited to add . .
I've decided to launch @ Huntington in the AM.
I will be pounding the harbor tomorrow.
I will p/u whatever bait Nacho has, other than Anchovies.
Do you have a receiver of some kind to hold bait?

yeah, i've got a 5 gallon bait tank with a 500 gph pump that i use. i'll be out there trying to make macks early, or just buy 20 or so pieces. i'll be in a yellow ocean kayak drifter. i'll have the hand-held on all day and monitoring 72/16. if i don't call you tonight (i might be gone most of the night) i'll give you a shout on the radio or cell phone in the morning.

thanks john. i can't wait to get towed for the first time. it's gonna be a trip. even if it's just a big leopard shark or something. i just hope the wind isn't up too early tomorrow. makes for tough paddling.

I should have plenty of bait to pass you.
Not sure what time I'm launching yet.

thanks john, i appreciate that. i think jim might be going with me as well. i'll/we'll try to get out early and make some macks so we can make a trade with you. i'm planning on pushing off the beach no later than 5:30 (should be grey light then) and i'm thinking a 30 minute paddle to nachos from there.

will you be on 72 or the SMB channel?

Yuck.

.SAT...W WIND 10 KT INCREASING TO 15 TO 20 KT IN THE AFTERNOON. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS...BECOMING 3 FT IN THE AFTERNOON. W SWELL 2 TO 3 FT AT 12 SECONDS. PATCHY FOG IN THE MORNING. SLIGHT CHANCE OF LIGHT RAIN IN THE AFTERNOON.
Makes for a great drift!
Also, just before a front moves in the fish can really turn on.

Glendon, how has that 500gph pump worked with that 5g bait tank? Too much flow? Working fine?

i haven't had bait in it yet, but i'm running it on a 6v battery instead of a 12v, so the flow is reduced. i've run the tank many times (again, with no bait in it) and it looks like it should be just fine. but i've got a flow restricter on it as well. but i honestly don't think that's necessary with the 6v battery. remind me after i throw up a report and i'll let you know how bait does in it tomorrow.

i have this tank. technically it's a 4.3 gallon tank.

that's not bad in the harbor, unless you're in a kayak. DOH!!!!!

i'm getting out early to try to miss the wind and get off the water early anyway. i just hope it's blowing the right direction!!!!!

but either way i'll be out there unless it's blowing 20 at sunrise.

Hey Guys,

if you get a report in I would appreciate it as I will be out Sunday with the wife just to spend the morning getting the boat wet on the bottom for a change. A little tune up for the halibut derby kind of thing. Spend a little time learning more about my white maker.

Good luck, but save a few for me, thanks
