OK I am from San Diego and fish quite a bit. Recently I went on a trip on a boat out of LB Sportfishing. Man there isn't a boat there that is kept up like the San Diego boats. Janky looking scows. The boat I fished on overnight was simply beat up and dirty. No maintenance or yearly boat work and it looked like it was a while since it had been done. Is this normal or did I choose the wrong landing? I won't fish there again.

The same can easily be said about some of the San Diego "Big Three" boats. It doesn't mean that it is true or accurate....just that it is one persons' expectations.

You know I just fished yesterday on the Eldorado. Nice crew, food and great service. The crew was a crackup and great stories all day. BUT the boat is very "tired" needs paint and sprucing up. The bunk room could use some floor covering that wasn't held down by duct tape and on and on. Needs some TLC. I don't think that Tunabrat is too far off.

I haver to say that it has been my experience that the SD fleet smokes most other landings but not all individual boats. Dana Pt. has some beautiful vessels. As you go north you seem to see more boats needing care...perhaps it's an economic thing.

I know what you mean....There are not the greatest looking boats for sure. Especially, when your use to the big 3. Seems they could use some cosmetic work and give it a more pleasant appeareance. It's just good for business...

Were you fishing or at a boat show?
Screw the appearance of boats, You want a boat with great appearance go get on a Cruise Ship.
Did the boat Run Well, Was the Boat safe, Was the food fresh, Crew Helpful and the big question....... Did you catch fish?? Those are the things you should be worried about.

You know for the cost of the trip I think it was $135 one might be expect to fish on a vessel that was in good repair and didn't smell where you were trying to sleep. Just not used to fishing on "janky" sportboats, I guess I am spoiled living in SD because the boats I fish here are always in great condition. Maybe it's an LA vs SD thing kinda like NoCal vs SoCal. OR just simply the boats aren't maintained like they are here in SD.

I have to agree with bitesomthing...I have had some of the most rewarding fishing experiences in run down pangas and the converse is also true ....been on some great boats but the fishing and crew sucked....I'll take the great crew and good fishing everytime...if you can have both that's even better....:p

Can't speak for the other boats, but the ElDorado crew is working their butts off on upgrades and repairs...they just finished taking out the fuel tanks for repairs, replacing decking and a host of other items...probably aren't finished yet but, still had to run to pay the bills....good crew and good boat...
