For the Halibut guys Jason THOSE SMELT are coveted baits!
That's one of the good things about the bait receivers on the EAST END
of the L.A. Harbor complex, and that's that you find Mackerel, Smelt,
Sardines, and Herring all there at the same time sometimes. Each bait
serves it's purpose as a bait for those that use them for whatever.
As stated above, catfood works great. I usually grind some sardines
periodically and put the stuff in the vacuum pack plastic, then freeze
it, take a couple packetes each trip, in a bucket with a little water,
and chum at will.
