Who took the American flag off the flagpole?!

I know in the past when it became ripped and/or shredded it would
come down and then get replaced, but the one up there was just fine.

Being so close to LAX it serves as multiple reminders for me.

Does anyone know whose responsibility it is? Sheriffs? Lifeguards? Harbor Patrol?

Who took the American flag off the flagpole?!

What is up with that...I always enjoyed seeing the beautiful red, white and blue up there, and when Erik and I headed out last week, it was conspicuously absent...do they need us to buy them a new one???

I'll be paying the harbormaster a visit Sunday after working the bait dock.
We'll see what's up with the disappearance of the flag. }(
Looking at the smoke stacks to the south is okay for wind direction . .
Rather have the flag back on the flagpole though.

John,

Did a little last minute rockcodding yesterday AM out of MDR and noticed the missing flag. I use the flag as a visual reference both departing and returning to port. Although yesterday morning was socked in with fog I found my self searching for the flag anyways! To have no flag flying on a Thanksgiving weekend is a no-no in my book......

I was told by multiple people they took the flag down because
there are no lights to shine on it at night. The flag's been
flying this way ever since I've been fishing in SMB.

I checked Sunday morning after working the bait dock and
I was told there was nobody available to comment on it.

SAY WHAT!?! }(

RE: Federal Flag Law

One of the basics from Cub Scouts (paraphrased):
If the Flag of the United States is flown after dark, it MUST have a light shining on it.

>SAY WHAT!?! }(

I agree with your feelings about it. Some PC-idiot must have run out of historical crosses to take down and decided to complain about it?

The real reason for the American Flag being down.

Well I just found out the following reasons for the American Flag
being down off the Marina Del Rey breakwater. Yeah they canâ??t fly
it without lighting, but thatâ??s because there currently is a power
issue due to malfunctioning wiring. I was told the whole thing has
to be rewired, and to compound this there will be dredging that will
begin before the end of 2006. This dredging will occur around the
north jetty and entrance. The rewiring will begin once the dredging
has concluded. No timeline for the completion of the dredging or how
long it might take.

I have another phone call to make in awhile which hopefully will get some firm timelines on this.

cant they spend just a few dolloars and get some solar lighting next to the pole, no WIRES evr, betcha its cheaper then the old way.

RE: The real reason for the American Flag being down.

I was just told solar power/lighting is not an option.
I was also told it might take as long as March before the flag is back.
This depends on whether the dredgers and/or barges experience any
problems/issues that might put the timeline out to a later date.
I was also told they do not want to risk the NEW wiring being
compromised so that's why they do it after the dredging is complete.

John,

Thanks for the update and the persistence. Hmmmmm, lack of power.....that's a more palatable reason.

Hope this can be completed in a timely manner.
