Thought I would put this in the tackle board cause its seems more "tackly" than boat issue. So I went fishing with my buddy this last weekend who is a big flyfisherman. We used his 8 wt rod off the kelp line and had an absolute blast catching bass and etc. I am now hooked and am ebaying for my own fly rod as we speak..........
So the issue is this; anybody have any ideas as to how to secure flyrods on a 20' center console? The rocket launchers dont work nor do the gunnel mount. It gets ugly real fast on a small boat with an expensive rod bouncing around. Must be some ingenious product or idea? I am all ears. I am sure some east coast transplant is laughing at this question.
Thanks, Andy

Well, I'm not a transplant, but I'm a East Coast guy:p I do this all the time on my 22' Mako CC. There are a couple of products out there that'll work.

1. Fentress Marine/Capt Hook Enterprises. Gene Fentress sold the company, but he's back making products under the Capt Hook brand now that his non-compete clause has expired. Here are some of the things he did: http://www.fentressmarine.com/images/fmcpage_3.pdf The best one he did is almost impossible to find now. I lucked into one about 3 years ago and have never seen another.

2. I use his regular "suction cup" rod holders; i.e. that mount on the side of the console. The fly rods fit just fine there. I have a T-Top with two rod cut-outs that the tips fit through. The rods are completely supported, both conventional and fly.

3. Blue Water Designs also makes one that you can permanently mount to the side of your console in the vertical position. http://www.bluewaternet.com/delstang.html

I'm headed out of town tomorrow and won't be back til next week. If you need some pictures, I can post them then.

That should get you started.

Thanks for the comeback. Those suction cup units look perfect as I imagine I wont be doing the fly thing too much. Still looking forward to one of those larger grade bonita though!!!
