These days the media is so filled with "if it bleeds, it leads.." news that one can easily become numb to it. Recently it struck closer to home, and today it did strike home.

Two and a half weeks ago a man that lives across the street went behind his apartment to throw a bag of trash into the dumpster. He was shot twice in a robbery. He has survived. He is my age, 59 years old. This happened 150 feet from my front door.

This morning the phone rang at 8:30AM. I was informed by a relative that my cousin Maureen had been found murdered in the driveway of her home this past Thursday morning. Police are seeking her ex husband, whom she has been divorced from since 2000, for questioning. The POS ex husband has a long history of domestic violence and restraining orders. This happened in Santee, CA.

Maureen was planning her son's 10th Birthday Party before she was murdered.

I am no stranger to violence, but it has always been between myself and another man. Guns and murder were never on the table.

I just do not get how the fu(k some one could shoot an unarmed man or beat a woman to death.

May God rest my dear cousin Maureen's Soul and watch over her son.

Here is the read:

Sorry to hear of this. As to why, history is full of examples of of societies which tolerate serious criminal acts and the rampant crime resulting from tolerance. Do you think such crimes would be committed, for example, if someone murders another and they were then killed for their crime?... not put in jail for a year or two then released into society again to do it all over?

Bill:

Very sorry to hear this. We've all been lucky enough to meet some great people in this world, the crappy flip side is that sometimes we also get touched by the meanness that also exists.

It doesn't seem to have been the purpose of the prior post, but the reason for this thread was that Bill needed to vent and maybe come to terms with the violence that has affected his life.

Lets leave this thread at that, and not start a politcal debate that removes Bill from the original intent and what is needed right now.

I saw the report on TV and commented to Trudy that not only was the poor woman murdered but she was raising her son by herself. What a loss. Our most sincere condolences.

What a worthless SOB to not only beat a woman to death, but it was the mother of his son.

Hell is not hot enough.

Is there a fund started for the 10 year old?

Count us in, if there is.

That's really sad news.My condolecsenses for your loss and especially for Maureen's child.I know what kind of POS beats innocent women and children. I lived with one when I was a kid and stabbed him in the face with a fork when I was right around Maureen's son's age after he backhanded my mother off her chair at the dinner table. They're lower than animals,an animal wouldn't do that. It's time for a change in how we punish these kinds of creatures,it's way past time

I believe that we have trusted the judicial system far too much as a society. However, it is not an easy repair. In my community, we had a 17 year old druggie kill a dealer in a pre-meditated robbery gone bad and recieved 10 yr probation. Then a guy sucker punches a state representative's father, who falls and hits his head on the floor and dies. The guy gets 10 years in prison for manslaughter. All of us should be thinking about curbing the macho around strangers in public and saving it until we really need to use it. Edit: I am terribly sorry for your losses and should have included this FIRST in the post. My condolences to you and your family.

Will Bill I feel your pain. What has happen to our Great Country? It is going to h--l real fast. We need stronger laws against the bad guys and then we need to inforce them. As far as I am concerned once they commit the crime they have no rights. Put them in prison and keep them there so that the innocent citizens are safe..JMHO

Actually, Jenks, in this country that only happens after being proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury of your peers. The court systems are so clogged up, a guilty person can skate for years. How about a drive through system where documentation is available? Van goes straight to prison after video evidence is viewed. Same day service for predatory crimes against strangers.

Bill,

My sincere condolences to you and your family. I hope that young lad is able to recover from the trauma and enjoy a productive life.

I believe Alaska has the place for those that commit such crimes.....The Aleutian Chain is under-utilized!

May your family find peace Bill!

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers, my friends. The Ex is on the run. I'm rooting for the police. I will be attending the Birthday Party of a boy who will turn 10 years old this Friday. All the boy knows at this point in time is that his mother died "in a terrible accident". The family and neighborhood is gathering to support him and each other.

Again, thanks for the support and prayers.

Condolences for the death of your cousin and my prayers go out to her son and the rest of your family.

Other than deal severely with the adults who do such horrid acts I would say that the best thing we can do is try to help the young that lack guidance. Take a neighborhood kid fishing or be a big brother/sister.

Bill, I am very sorry to hear of this senseless and infuriating event. I was somewhat heartened to read that they did arrest the ex-husband in Idaho, so I hope for swift and certain justice. I feel terrible for her son, I really do. I hope you and the family can help him pull through.

Thanks for the thoughts, Andre. Maureen was well loved in her neighborhood and the child will be with his uncle there. I will be there this weekend for his Birthday Party. You can bet that I will be spending some days in court watching the trial. There is a lot of love in the family to help the kid through. I just can't fathom the day he has to be told Mom didn't die in a car accident. He turns 10 years old on Friday and everybody knows the truth but him. I am just going to see what I can contribute. I hunted with her older brothers for over forty years. The child's grandmother is my God mother. She is 80 years old. i will be praying for guidance on the way down there.

Damn Bill, this is a very bitter pill to swallow. My heart aches for the young lad, and I dare not entertain the effects this will forever more, impact on his young life....it seems not fair at all!

It will be my privilege to offer a prayer for him, and the rest of your family.
