I remember doing that also. My first boats in the late 70's were the GW and City of Seal Beach and the Enterprise and City of Long Beach sportfishing boats. Fun times.I used love fishing the half-days and twilight boats out of Belmont and Seal.
My dad used to take us out now and then.
What's a limit up there?A boat slip in Newport marina, very expensive, unafordable for me, even when I owned boat. Most party boats in Newport, are 42 footers and hold up to 15 passengers, The boats will fish until they have limits and the come in..I've limited out in 10 minutes, so it doesnt.take longThe majority of trips average about 4 hours for rock fish.longer for salmon and off shore halibut.
I fished all of those. I probably fished the GW (garbage wagon) morning half-day and the City twilights in the late '80s and '90s when I got sober and went back to school.I remember doing that also. I fished the Victory too when they used to call the landing off of the 710 & Pico exit in Long Beach Queens Wharf Landing. George the owner captain used to take us out to Horseshoe Kelp when it actually had kelp to fish yellows and barracuda. He also used to fish Rocky Point (off of Marineland) for yellows, bonito, and big calico bass. That's when the bait tank would have a mixture of good 5" - 6" anchovies, brown bait, small Spanish jacks, small greenback mackerel, and pompano. Sardines were not as abundant then, but they did have them.I fished all of those. That GW was a rock-cod magnet.
I fished the Victory with my dad when it was new.
It's funny there were no Sardine when I was a kid, but great anchovy.I fished the Victory too when they used to call the landing off of the 710 & Pico exit in Long Beach Queens Wharf Landing. I fished out of Depot Bay once when I was a kid and it was like that. We slow-trolled dead bait for salmon, I got (I think) an 11 pound silver.A great thing about fishing Oregon, when you get on your boat, all tackle is provided. Rod and reels already rigged and ready to fish, all in rod holders. If you have issues, spare rods are available to use. You never need to bring tackle, I bring a vacuum sealer, package and seal my fillets in my hotel room and freezing them for my trip home. Three days of fishing, about $500 plus cost of motel.
