I just finished my new bass rod calicos better be aware. Phenix rod it's a 7' rated 10-20 lbs i made it with a split handle and a black widow design from Billy's book of thread art i used madeira thread for the pattern i also attempted to do a black widow weave got to keep practicing those weaves specially the packing i used a trigger reel seat with alps xn lite guides acid wrapped guide wraps are triple wrapped with all A thread metallic red and silver and ncp black here are some picks.

Very nice job. I've had custom rod makers that didn't do half as good a job. I hope you found the spine before you started. The only reason i say that is i built my first rod with a Fenwick blank for surf fishing and didn't and it twists in my hand but still does the job and looks good.

i made myself a ball bearing spine finder i use it to find the spine and i shouldn't have that problem i also make my rods Acid style that takes care of the rod twisting under preasure.
