Fisherfolk,

The Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary's recreational angler workgroup is having a meeting to discuss some important issues. We need lots of interested private anglers and professional skippers/crew. The agenda is below and includes topics such as: Range markers to help us know the boundaries of the MPAs. CINMS Designation Document changes which may allow them to engage in fisheries management.

On WEDNESDAY January 18, 2006 the Recreational Fishing Working Group (RFWG) of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council will hold a public meeting from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Santa Barbara Harbor Marine Classroom, located at 125 Harbor Way on the second floor (across from the Minnow Café).


*The role of the Recreational Fishing Group is *to advise and make recommendations to the Sanctuary Advisory Council regarding recreational fishing-related issues at the Channel Islands*. *


*WHEN: WEDNESDAY, January 18th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.*


*WHERE: Santa Barbara Harbor Marine Classroom (upstairs above the Harbor Market)*


*WHAT: Meeting of the Recreational Fishing Working Group of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council*


*AGENDA:*


1 Introductions and discussion about implementing a series of land based range markers delineating the Marine Protected Area boundaries where feasible.


2 Announcement of the current open application period for Recreational Fishing member and alternate seats on the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council.


3 Consider the direction Socio-economic research supported by the Sanctuary is taking and provide feedback for the Sanctuary Advisory Council in that regard, potentially suggesting target study questions.


4 Consider the Sanctuaryâ??s proposed changes to its Designation Document (gives the Sanctuary its existence and designates its authority). Discuss the Sanctuaryâ??s future consideration of a possible boundary expansion.


*DIRECTIONS:*
From the South: take 101 North and exit Castillo St. Take a left at the first street light, make a left from the far left lane at the next street light and proceed under the overpass and continue straight approximately one-half mile on Castillo Street towards the ocean until you reach Cabrillo Blvd. Make a right at the light on Cabrillo Blvd and get in the left land. Make a left at the street light at Harbor Way (in front of La Playa Stadium). Parking in the harbor is free in marked 90 minutes stalls after 6:00 p.m. or there is a city lot that charges behind the kiosk on the east side of the harbor. The 125 building is located between Brophy Brothers Restaurant and West Marine, the room is located on the second floor on the west end of the building across from the Minnow Café.

By the way... calicos and sandies were biting pretty well today.

Good idea, Frank. Not sure quite yet though, because I may be out of town.

I hope to see many of you fisherfolk at the CINMS SAC rec fishing workgroup meeting tomorrow (Wednesday).
