Although I have picked up quite a collection of rods over the years I am not sure I am using them for the right purposes.

1. Should there be anything different between a used for trolling, jigging or casting ? I often use the same reel for all of these purposes with a 6'6 or 7 foot rod.

2. When exactly should you be using a "roller" rod ??

Thanks again !!

Yes, there are different rods for different purposes, although some do more than one thing well.

As a general rule, use longer rods for lighter line weights, and shorter rods for heavier line weights. Longer rods cast further, but put more strain on the angler when fighting a fish.

I like a softer, more flexible tip for fishing bait, and a stiffer tip for fishing jigs.

A trolling rod is usually shorter and stiffer, and designed for at least 80# line to bring in the troll fish faster so that the whole school will follow it.

Rollers are usually used on heavier weight rods, although there are some light weignt roller guides for for less heavy rods.

If you want, you can post the make and models of your rods, and people here can chime in with what they think the best uses might be.
