I've bait-fished a spectra backed 40 with 65# sepctra and 40# mono. It did very well, I'd have no hesitation doing so again. The 30 is a narrower 40, so the drag, etc should be the same. I got 475 yards of 65 spectra on it with room for a short topshot, a little math should give you a round figure of how much spectra the 30 can hold.

I have both a 30T and a 40. The 30t is set up with 50# spectra/ 30# mono topshot and the 40 with 65# spectra/ 40-60# topshot.

These reels are my go to setups when casting to boiling fish off the corner or hitting kelp paddies. The star drags are smooth and you can gauge your drag increases by the number of clicks.

Now ....I like my Accurate 870s but the Saltigas seem to cast a tad farther. The annodization on the spool is excellent and I have found no corrosion under the spectra with my yearly maintainence. Just make sure you strip the mono topshot off after your trip and let the spectra dry out after you clean your reel with a fine spray.

The only bummer is the reel clamp on the 30T.
