We were there this past fall. We went thru Tim Berg's Alaskan Fishing Adventures and it was great.

Book early, and reserve early at the Holiday Inn Express. It's right on the dock...literally, you walk out of the hotel onto the boat. Get a room with a harbor-view balcony. A good side is that they have a great free breakfast buffet...and not "continental" ..they have eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits ang gravy. If you're discreet, you can even make up a lunch to take on the boat from the buffet.

Here's wifey's first ling cod ever.....

got2fish,

If you do some research on the internet. You will find many offering combo trips. I suggest a Halibut Lingcod comboif you can find one. I believe lings open July 3rd. 40 and 50 lb lings are common, to get big butts try using a salmon head instead of cut herring for bait.

Thanks for the info!!

Booked on the One Day out of Cracker Jack. Captain only does combo trips (hali/silver) and usually includes ling/rockfish depending on the bite.

I will post how it goes. Trip is mid July

Trip report

Son and I booked a charter thru Captain Jacks on the "one day" a very nice boat with capacity of 12 that runs with 10 anglers. Picked a larger boat thinking the weather would be an issue.

Weather was picture perfect...2ft and sunny. Very lucky.

Fished for our limits of salmon inside the bay and then moved for halibut and rock fish. Halibut were very small, but tasty :) rock fish were huge (for so cal stds). Yellow eye at around 15 lbs and couple lings at 30lbs.

Fun trip and highly reccomend the "one day".
