We got to the shop at 5:30am this morning and started work on the chines getting them welded in place and tweaked till they ran true along the boat.

Then Trace showed up and we began placing the final weld along the keel...a 3 weld process, laying a root path and then filling in...

Trace and his magic carpet.....

While he was welding we started on the side sheets....

We cut the first sheet in a rough pattern and tried it out..

Sorry for the pic but its late and I have to go to bed....

We had to make another jig to get the sheets to pull together...

Now this may look like a picture perfect finish ...NOT.......

We got this far about 4:00pm this afternoon, since then it's been a real biatch...

The sheets at this point have to be released and then cut to shape, now they are tack welded towards the bow and start to get a lot of pressure as they form to the shape of the boat. We got some serious issues with one of the sheets....

We left at 9:30pm tonight and walked away hopefully to return tomorrow and conquer.......

Keith Poe said he may drop by tomorrow....does he weld....:)

RE: Tough day today........

"trace and his magic carpet"

that's classic. make due with what you have and improvise where necessary.

i don't know about everyone else, but i'm LOVING this. looking at the pictures i feel like i'm there. seriously, KEEP THEM COMING. it's AWESOME watching this boat come together little by little. and when it's all done you're gonna be SO glad you took all these pictures. you can put together a scrap book of the process from start to finish.

KEEP THE PICTURES COMING!!!!!

RE: Tough day today........

I arrived late today and Alex had jacked up the boat about 1 1/2 inches, the front of the bow now cleared the floor but we all agreed that we had to grind out all the tacks and start again....:(

We had to move the side sheets forward 5" to allow us another go at forming the bow...

Looking good after 9 hours of measurements and more measurements. The sheet on the left has been tacked and cut, the other sheet is being formed by the C clamp jig we tacked on. Then the sheet was cut and finally tweaked into place...

A side veiw of the lines we got on the front.....we were very happy....:)

Once the bow was set in place and weld Alex ran the skill saw up each side and cut the front bow sheets along the chine....

20ft freehand cuts in 3/16th aluminum....he rocks..

Unlike our welder Trace who called in around noon with a hangover after going to a big punk rock gala bash for the leader singer he's dating....

Side sheets on and tacked......

OMG...she's 32' 8" long X 11' 8" wide.....

Still towable...

Alex is going to work there tomorrow grinding out by hand a welding path for the side sheets and the chine...

That will probably take 10-12 hours....
