I charted this boat for about 4 years when Steve Thompson owned the boat. Haven't been on it since. I rode the boat because of Steve. The boat is nothing special. The Bunk area was always a concern. Doubles down the middle with singles against one side..I think it slept 15 guys Okay.

The new owner may have changed things. So the bunk layout maybe different now.

I rode it several times with the Allcoasters, both Pierpoint and SD. The boats could only sleep 11 if each had a bunk. The other 5 (Max load) would have to crawl over the guy on the outside to a bunk about the size of, and as comfortable as a coffin. But for 11 its O. K. Paul Ps Overnite only.

Like the others, used to ride it when Steve was the captain, and you do indeed go for the crew, not the boat itself. The bunkroom was just as described. The new captain/crew might make it worthwhile, I don't know anything about them one way or the other.

Tom is a good fisherman, been around for years. The boat is nice and well kept BUT it is small. The bunks are comfortable but unless you want to share a bunk you need to get on one of the limited load trips. Like stated before 11 max.

It was the home base of the infamous Tabi Ho Charters with Steve as Captain....had some fantastic trips on the Tracer...have not been on it since Steve sold the operation....I always slept in the galley...the bunk area was just too weird for me....

I visited the boat during the San Dieg Day at the Docks along with my two boys who are 3 and 5. We met the owner and did a thorough walk about. From my recolection ... the bunk room is the same as it was. Double bunks towards the stern and singles up towards the bow. A few improvements made on the crows nest. Recently painted and it full operational order. It was decent. According to the owner/operator (his name is escaping me at this time) the bait tank holds around 200 scoops which is plenty for a 2 day. It looks nice for a light load like 10-11 folks. Having chartered the Success for a few years - I like that size of boat for 10 persons. Since the Success has no open party trips that I am aware of - I went ahead and booked a limited load (10 person) open party 2 day on the Tracer. My trip is not until August 15th (friday - Sunday). I will report more at that time. The Trace seems to have some limited load (10 person) open party trips online at this time. It was ok enough for me to check out this summer.
