When I cut off the thread in my wraps I get a fuzzy stick-up or some other irregularity. Is there a trick to cutting the thread? I've tried a razor blade and scissors and still can't lick this problem. Is there a way to pull on the thread that will help -- or what? Advice welcome.
Thanks!

put some slack in the line you are about to cut to ease off the tension, then cut it. That should to the trick. Also, alot of people cut the tag end off after they pull it under. I don't do this. I cinch up the tag end with my pull throughup to the edge of the wrap, then I cut it and pull it through. Don't pull it pull it parallel to the rod though, you have to pull it at a slight angle. One more tip is to use uncoated spectra for your pull through loop.

Yep. Cinch up the tag end snug against the wraps with your loop; don't pull the tag end under the wraps yet. Then cut the tag end right where it is snugged against the wraps. Pull your loop and you'll pull the tag end under the wraps, securing it, but you won't pull the end of the tag out through the wraps. Works all the time. Almost.;) No fuzzies.

I pretty much follow the same procedure as the others suggested. Another thing that I do is to put a coat of Flex Coat Lite on the wraps and wait for it to dry. You can then trim any remaining "fuzzy" ends off with a razor before applying the final coat(s).

I always trim after I pull it thru. I use 30lb uncoated spectra to pull it. Trim if with a sharp razor right against the wraps. A couple swipes with the alcohol torch and you have to look very close to see the tag end. Especially after burnishing, it all but disapears.

FISH HARD!
Haha! Yea, Im startin to think its a good idea to leave the fuzzy tags as an "artifact of the process", to show that its actually thread...especially since I had yet another guy walk in and ask for some of the, and I quote:"colored shrink tubing I use to attach the guides". LMAO!!!

Yeah, but the thread wasn't what I was talkin' 'bout! 8) I know what you mean though. I've had 'em ask me the same questions. "Is that tape?" "How do you keep the guides straight while you heat thew shrink tube?" Etc. I kept a 30X pocket microscope on my wrapping table just so they could look and SEE that it was thread. The question after that was "How do you get it to look like tape?" @( For my trim off, I would pull the tag end under and through, then I'd pull the tag end back toward the outside or end of the wrap to creat a gap. Then I'd trim the tag end off down in the gap, thus cutting it off below the level of the top of the wrap. ;)
