WFO on BIG WSB on 5-19-08!!!

I have to say this was one of the best WSB bites I have seen in a long time. Just awesome fishing! I took a trip out Sunday evening with some of the best sticks around, Marc Flores, Mike Forgey, Steve Berczik, Ernie Beltran & myself. After hearing some hot rumors we decided to go goofing off with Tony on his boat Mardiosa. With a plugged tank of live squid we were ready and loaded for action. The first fish came over the rail for Ernie at 0400 hrs. It was a nice 35lb class WSB. It was another hour before we got bit again......and then it got crazy. We had a big fat seal take a big WSB away from Marc. Took Marc's favorite white jig with glow and all. If you see a giant knot head with a white jig in his lips.....it's Marc's. (laughs) After that we got going and limited out on some nice WSB with 3 in the 40lb class and one giant 56 lb'r caught by Mike Forgey!! This was weighed in at Pierpoint on the official scale at just a tad over 56lbs!! (Sorry about my fat finger in the shot) Later in the day I added a small yellowtail to our biz bag. We also found a spot for some nice action on big fat calico bass while releasing most! All in all some awesome fishing. I will let the photos do the rest of the report!!

Great job on the unicorns guys. Now will someone please go to Tailman's house and remove all the sharp objects and rope from there ;). PS Please check the weather before you go chasing after those ghosts. It's NASTY out there right now.

The Mardiosa year after year is consistently a highliner charter 6-Pack. I saw those counts for Mardiosa on the 5/19 Fish Reports, but would never have guessed the average size of the limit landed! It goes without saying that the level of passenger skill had to be phenomenal to get those pigs to gaff. Awesome job!!!

I did a year by year comparison of the three wsb catching 6 pack style charter boats operating out of the SP/LB landings, the MarDiosa, Phantom, Old #7, and the Dreamer.

By far, the Phantom is the top gun and the difference is in the hundreds in WSB caught.

I'm going on that one if I decide to ride one of those boats.

Helps to be called the Phantom when you're going after the gray ghosts. :tu:

I had to jump on this post..

First of All, Tony that own's the Mardiosa used to run the Phantom a few years back so I don't know how far back your going.. He was all ways one of the top boats when he ran it.. These boats are all good WSB catching boats.. You just have to pick out a boat, crew you like and you should catch fish.. Watson on the Dreamer is considered the God of WSB and is booked all most every day during the season and never reports his catch's unless somebody else does it for him so he can keep the little boats from following him which happens alot.. Tony is right there with him and some people call him the King of Catalina and reports very little when its good for same reason.. Now the Old #7 is my buddy he likes calling in and runs a great operation..

In your in Phantom observation did you consider that they carry up to 9 passengers and 4 crew? Maybe they reported their shorts because one day this year I remember they called in that they were in a WFO bite but 47 fish were just short but ended up with their limits in the long run.. If you ever heard him on the radio or 976tuna reports all he does is bad mouth Allcoasters and other pber's but he is a very good fisherman I will give him that..

I will leave it at that,

CK
