Hello everyone!
Can anyone tell me what the yield should be for yellowfin tuna? I recently went on a trip to San Diego and caught 172 lbs of yellowfin. I got it processed and shipped to me and received 31 lbs of filets. At 18% yield this seems extremely low. All of the fish were about 20 lbs or so. I thought it would be closer to 35%?
Thanks in advance!

I caught 9 fish at 172 lbs. I want to talk to the processor before I name them as a courtesy to them because they were great to deal with otherwise.

Fisherman's Processing lists 25-30% yield for fillets for tuna sized 10-25 pounds. I expect this would be for prime, belly or head gaffed fish. Obviously lower for "damaged" fish.

So yes, your yield figures seem more than a little low.
