A good friend updated all his rods and gave me his 1995 Yo wrapped calstar 655xxh. Its in great condition and its nick-name is the 'stump puller', but it has no rollers on it but all stainless standard eyes and I want to use it for an January 2006, 16 day Hurrican journey for cows. In a "mexican stand-off" with a big fish, will the spectra eat into the guides or will the guides heat up and compromise the spectra. Is it worth re-wrapping or just go for it and hope nothing breaks.

Thanks for the input

Many many large fish have been caught with ring guides...your spectra will not damage the guides or get so hot that they will melt your line....putting rollers will add weight and change the action of the rod....probably make it stiffer.....

that being said I'd probably rewrap it with All American Rollers....

In the "old days", when we used more mono than we do today, rollers were a must. Now with the short topshots, and the spectra not building up heat going over the guides like mono does, rollers are not all that necessary.
Call Martin at Yo's and ask him, but I would leave it alone.
