The last of the blue glass is on the cutting tables at Seeker and its not clear if they will ever get more. However rest assured that we will be seeing more S-Glass designs from my favorite rod company!

The last 24 EX Ulua's will be available here shortly. If you ever wanted a blue one, step up to the plate now. E-mail Badfish, or your favorite rodbuilder.

******27 June: The stack of new EX Ulua's are at the our local warehouse and several are still available.

RE: Last of the Blue Ulua's

Yeah baby, can't wait!!! Possibly the best jig stick ever, I thought the Ulua93H was hot until I built the Composite ExUlua93H-10 and fished it! Super stick, even at 10'!
Randy and Seeker better have a super, super jig stick in the wings to replace this one!

RE: Last of the Blue Ulua's

Sorry, I know I'm not Louis. . .
All Ulua93H's start out at 10'and are cut to 9'3" and a 14 tip. The EXUlua93H is blue "S"glass. The Ulua93H-10 (not to be confused with the Ulua100 which is more of a 30# stick) is a special order.
The one we are talking about is a limited edition composite of blue"S"glass and graphite.

Limited edition because there were 20 or so prototypes and not intended for retail sale. The guys that got them, me for one, were asked to review the action of the new composite and we all went nuts and so did some guys that tried our rods or had rods built that the 20 were sold out in no time! We asked for more but were told, "Sorry, that's all folks!"
Seeker got so many calls for more that they agreed to make 24+ more! And "Da Man" Louis has a lock on a lot of them!

RE: Last of the Blue Ulua's

Out of the mandrel all the ulua's are 10FT. Then 9 inches is trimmed off the tip to give you the size 14 top. By trimming the tip say like 6" or 4" then you can change the line rating a bit.

sorry did not read Mr. Skipjacks post before replying

RE: Last of the Blue Ulua's

Thanks for all the replys.

I understand that the EX Uluas are composite; a black steel like graphite butt section blended to a S-glass mid/tip section instead of E-glass.

In this last run of EX Uluas, which blanks will be available?

I'm definitely interested in all three versions.

Thanks,
B2F

Attn all Ulua lovers!

My neighborhood ultilities are in the process of being undergrounded and the tele poles will be available as surplus shortly. I'm not sure if they are s or e glass, kindof brownish like the older Trulines, but they got plenty of length(probably need to be trimmed) and lots of backbone. A little sanding, some cork tape, about 20 guides and nirvana for you long rodders!
Also, I'm sure they could be high-sticked on cudas without snapping...
:D
PS-I leave tomorrow on the AA for a 7 day, say a prayer for me to the tuna gods-I'm sure I'll be the only acidrod guy on the boat again....

Perspective

Hearing different reports of fish caught by other members of our fleet always makes us want to be everywhere at once. However, we have to keep things in perspective as the windy weather has really been a factor in our fishing destination decisions. Today we decided to get out of the weather and heal our wounded, but it ended out that we instead went to battle. There are a lot of honey holes that only bite in perfect conditions and today we happened to be at one where the current and wind was perfect.
When we saw the size of the fish in the chumline, we knew that we had better prepare to lose a few. The yellows boiling up were 25 to 51lbs and were sucking up sardines and the surface iron, like candy. Being that we were upcurrent of a pinnicle that they call home - we only landed probably a third of what we hooked. We ended up with about 40 of these trophies and then spent the rest of the day picking at different spots, never again finding the perfect condition.
Pictured here is Ed Morrison, with an example that at times, quality is better then quantity.

RE: Last of the Blue Ulua's

From what I know, they will all be full 10 footers, and can be custom cut. We can only ship 8'-11" cut blanks. All the rest must be local Will-Call.

I did not ask if they were the Composite version or not, but it looks like Jim has done the homework and has confirmed that these will be composite.

As for custom cutting:

Full Length = 30-40#
9 Foot = 40-60#
7 Foot = Gaff!

RE: Last of the Blue Ulua's

All i can offer is past history and my opinion.the ULUA93H in any color Grey Black Gold White in 9'3" or 10' are all the same blank. originally designed and used in hawaii for cliff fishing for the Ulua or Giant Trevally. they used up to 60Lb line and we have a 5' extension that can make it go up to 15'. a long cast with up to 16oz. sinker then a slider is clipped on with the hook and the octapus. Giant travally are tough and if im not mistaken i read somthing about a 98 pounder landed fishing this method.but im sure an island person will come on and tell you the island record. Extreme conditions Extreme rod. The tip was cut to aid in casting with the weight of the sinker nothing to do with line rating. The jig stick thing started in Redondo Beach on the local 3/4 and 1/2 day boats were some of my friends started using it for gar and yellow, at that time we just called it the outrigger lol.One of the long range captains named jeff D and im not puttin his last name cuz i dont want to miss spell it (is now on the independence)was running the Sea Spray in redondo and started fishing it also. Then John Grabowski Roy Rose Tim Ekstrom and so on and so forth if i am leaving people out dont be offended it really started taking off. the un-cut ulua IMO fishes 30 nice 40 nice 50 nice. but as seen in here different guys throw different weight jigs. the new composite uluas is the exact same base pattern IE the tip is the same with graphite to stiffen up the lower 2/3 of the blank. Some of the things ive seen and heard about the ulua 36Lb yellow bounced. a considerable amount of 90-110lb yellowfin on the skip jig and recently on an american angler trip a 191 Lb bluefin taken buy Chris one the the crew Members From the Spifire out of Redondo. ive seen the rod in action ive fished it with a narrow 4/0 and 40lb line and im convinced that 60Lb and the rail will tame 100Lb tuna all day long. dont worry about the line rating if i had to rate it it would be 25(40)80 on the rods i believe i put 25(30)40 but then on production rods im always conservative. set the tip size to your personel fishing light jigs size 10 in-between jigs size 11 big stuff size 12 and really heavy jigs size 14. once you set the tip either leave it full length or cut it from the butt to the length you like it.Fish it as hard as you want i mean we (SEEKER)do have an open door warranty policy on blanks. And i think you will jump on the band waggon with the best jig rod on the market today!

RE: Mahalos to you too Jim

and of course Randy at Seeker for listening to the needs of all different groups of potential buyers of quality products. I can't wait to get mine and toss to da pikies next spring or later dis summa.
Big Mahalos to you Jimbo.Without you I might have never been able to score one to begin with! Till 20 or 30 years later on ebay when I could only hang it on my wall and admire it. Or take it to da coast fo bouncing pencil cudas at my advanced age of whatever I would be by then. LOL
Now,we just gotta get it here. Corbett....can you say road trip for another brewery tour and Rockies game? Maybe the Avs will be playin hockey again this year.

Thanks, BLANKMAN

That sort of surf/rocks fishing is popular in Australia as well. I caught many Trevally of several species when I was down there, but my biggest "Giant" was only about 15# or so. The thought of a 90 pounder on a 10' stick makes me shudder...

Thanks Randy!.....now for an encore......

That was a great story about the birth of the ultimate jig stick! I am still hoping that we will see the "Ultimate" 9 foot "Guadalupe Special" some time soon.....just enough tip to cast a sardine (far), and enough balls to land a 60-100 lb class tuna (without getting killed)! Can it be done?

Randy can.....he seems to be the only one responding to the changing needs of offshore fishermen....lots of new products from Seeker over the last several years. You guys make if exciting to be a rodbuilder!
